  • Cry Baby by Ginger Scott just went live!! I love this author’s writing style! — “He loyal to his brothers. He doesn’t really have a choice, born into a gang that has a chokehold on every kid that roams its streets. He gave his life to them willingly, knowing if he did then one day this kingdom, led by boys drunk with power and ruled by fear, would all be his. He was loyal through it all. Loyal when prison took his dad away. Loyal when his face was touched by the cold metal of the rival gang’s gun. Loyal even though his mom begged him to run the moment she returned home from rehab. He thought about becoming someone else. It was hard not to crave the life of a regular 17-year-old. It’s the only reason he stayed in school—to pretend. But he always fell back in line. Loyal. She didn’t belong in his real world. She should have only been part of the fantasy, one of the many faces he got to pretend with amidst rows of metal chairs and desks and whiteboards with assignments. But there she was, moving boxes from the back of an old pick-up into a house he had shot up on a dare with his friends only a few months before… She challenged him. She needed him. He liked it. And when her pale blue eyes stared into his, he quit wanting to pretend. He couldn’t ask her to leave because she’d only dig her heels in deeper. He couldn’t ask because he didn’t want her to go. She was blurring his lines. She was testing his loyalty. He was falling in love. And it was going to tear him apart.”

Mister Tonight by Kendall RyanNew Release!!

Standalone: “Last night was the most embarrassing night of my life. I was THAT girl. You know, the highly intoxicated chick celebrating her thirtieth with her two best friends… And the more I drank, the more I wanted to do something reckless to celebrate. By reckless, I meant the sexy and alluring man dressed in a business suit standing near the bar. You know his type—tall, dark, and handsome… He took me home and I enjoyed the hottest birthday sex of my life, well until it came to a screeching, and rather unwelcome halt. There’s nothing quite like being interrupted mid-ride with a little voice asking: “What are you doing to my daddy?”

Just kill me now…… or so I thought. Come to find out the man I rode like a b

One man… and I fell for him.

I just never realized they included death.“

Desperate to make a fresh start, she impulsively takes a job at the family-run Capriotti Winery. With no real family of her own, she’s bewildered by how quickly they all take her under their wing and make her feel like she belongs. Vampire’s Faith by Rebecca ZanettiNew Release!!

Yet here he is, in an era where vampires are hidden, the enemy has grown stronger, and his mate has no idea of the power she holds.

Dr. Faith Cooper is flummoxed by irrefutable proof that not only do vampires exist… they’re hot blooded, able to walk in sunlight, and shockingly sexy. She has always depended on science, but the restlessness she feels around this predatory male defies reason. Especially when it grows into a hunger only he can satisfy…”

And when he learns she plans to spend her first American summer hiding out reading books, he refuses to be ignored. Love Like Crazy by Magan VernonNew Release!!

Can standalone: Vegas was a trip, and that was an understatement. An understatement I couldn’t remember and that included the brunette in my bed.

I guess things the happened in Vegas had a way of following you home.

Cry Baby by Ginger ScottNew Release!!

Standalone: Tristan Lopez is loyal to his brothers.

Loyal.

Riley Rojas didn’t belong in Tristan’s real world. She should have only been part of the fantasy, one of the many faces he got to pretend with amidst rows of metal chairs and desks and whiteboards with assignments. But there she was, moving boxes from the back of an old pick-up into a house Tristan had shot up on a dare with his friends only a few months before.

Tall enough to look him in the eyes and strong enough to fill his shadow, Riley took up space on his streets, her loud mouth fearless in the face of the gang leaders who terrified everyone else. She pushed Tristan around on the hard court, and she balled better than his friends—better than him sometimes. She challenged him.

And it was going to tear him apart.

Turns out his ability to terrify with a single scowl comes with an advantage. Autumn seems to like it. A lot. As evidenced by the prisoner-captive comic Blake was never meant to see.

As they embark on a three-date arrangement the rules are clear; filthy, ground breaking sex, no feelings or commitment required.”

Book Review — A Wish For Us by Tillie Cole http://aestasbookblog.com/a-wish-for-us-review/ http://aestasbookblog.com/a-wish-for-us-review/#comments Sun, 10 Jun 2018 18:13:51 +0000 http://aestasbookblog.com/?p=71673 Read More  >]]>

A Wish For Us.

A story of music.
A story of healing.
A story of love conquering all.

Oh my gosh, this was the most BEAUTIFUL book!! I read it straight through in one sitting and it was AMAZING!! A truly unique and EMOTIONAL LOVE STORY that brought music and colors to life in a way that blew me away. I COULD NOT STOP READING! It was a BEAUTIFUL and HEALING romance. I highly, highly recommend it!

Nineteen-year- old Cromwell Dean is the rising star of electronic dance music. Thousands of people adore him. But no one knows him. No one sees the color of his heart. Until the girl in the purple dress. She sees through the walls he has built to the empty darkness within.

When Cromwell leaves behind the gray skies of England to study music in the South Carolina heat, the last thing he expects is to see her again. And he certainly doesn’t expect that she’ll stay in his head like a song on repeat.

Bonnie Farraday lives for music. She lets every note into her heart, and she doesn’t understand how someone as talented as Cromwell can avoid doing the same. He’s hiding from his past, and she knows it. She tries to stay away from him, but something keeps calling her back.

Bonnie is the burst of color in Cromwell’s darkness.
He’s the beat that makes her heart skip.

But when a shadow falls over Bonnie, it’s up to Cromwell to be her light, in the only way he knows how. He must help her find the lost song in her fragile heart. He must keep her strong with a symphony only he can compose.

A symphony of hope.
A symphony of love.
A symphony of them.

Okay now I know that the first question that most of you are going to ask me is whether this book has a happy ending — it was definitely the first question I asked too, so I get it. I’ll post the answer in a spoiler link below:

Spoiler Inside Show

Cromwell Dean is the epitome of a tormented bad boy hero. Tattoed. Pierced. Famous. Private. Sullen. Sexy. Angry. Talented beyond all reason. He had it all and yet his life felt empty. Something had happened that had taken all the joy out of his life and his music. And it wasn’t until a chance encounter brought Bonnie into his life that any of that began to change.

She went quiet.

I caught her looking at me. Her brown eyes were narrowed, like she was scrutinizing me. Reading something in me that I didn’t want anyone to see.

No one ever looked at me closely. I never gave them the chance. I thrived on the podium at clubs because it kept everyone far away, down on the dance floor where no one ever saw the real me.

They were complete opposites in so many ways, but when a college project paired them together and forced them to co-write music for the semester, their world’s became unchangeably entwined.

It’s not an easy task to describe music with words alone, but Tillie Cole did it wish such beautiful writing that it felt like you could hear and FEEL everything even though there was no real sound at all.

The club pulsed as the beat I was pouring into the crowd took over their bodies. Arms in the air, hips swaying, eyes wide and glazed as my music slammed into their ears, the rhythmic beats controlled their every move. The air was thick and sticky, clothes slick to people’s skins as they crammed into the full club to hear me.

I watched them light up with color. Watched them get lost in the sound. Watched them shed whoever they’d been that day — an office worker, a student, a copper, a call-center worker — what the fell ever. Right now, in this club, they were slaves to my tunes. Right here, in this moment, my music was their life.

Cromwell saw music as colors and saw beauty few other people ever could, and yet his talent was also hiding a pain so raw that it had taken all the heart and soul from his music. Bonnie made it her mission to help him find it again.

He looked like the epitome of arrogate, rolling his tongue ring against his teeth. He was dressed in black jeans that had a chain hanging from the waist, and a simple white shirt with a low neck and tick short sleeves that gripped his muscled biceps. His tattoos climbed like vines up his arms and neck.

Some people would think them art.
I thought they looked like they were strangling him.

It broke my heart to see how desperately he craved that healing but how his demons pushing everyone away from him. He needed her, but couldn’t stand that he needed her.

The thought of working with Bonnie made an uneasy feeling sprout inside me. I didn’t like to feel anything. I was happy numb. But for some reason Bonnie Farraday sparked life back into my dead soul.

They couldn’t have been more opposite. She was sunshine and he was a storm cloud. But they shared a deep love for music and for a while, that was their only connection. Until that connection slowly deepened. The more time they spent together, the more he slowly began to trust her with his deepest secrets and show her his world. But no matter how broken his secrets made him, nothing prepared him for the devastation of hers.

When you’re writing a hero who acts like a bit of a jerk, there’s a delicate balance between forgivable actions and going too far. I also feel it’s really important to give some kind of believable and justifiable reason for their actions. And I really felt like this book did a fantastic job of that. Learning of what Cromwell had been through and what kinds of demons he was fighting, it really made his behavior at the very least understandable. His secrets were deep and crushing and even the best of people can be brought low by that kind of pain.

I had seen to many performances in my lifetime, yet none had compared to the rawness of what I had heard tonight. I followed the fingers dancing like birds on a lake. My eyes tracked up a pair of tattooed arms, over a white sleeveless shirt, over stubble-dark cheeks and silver piercings.

Then they locked on a single teardrop. A falling drop that rolled down the tanned cheek to splash on the ivory keys that were pouring with the sounds of pain and hurt and regret.

My chest was stricken, reacting to the wordless story the music was telling. As I started at Cromwell’s face, it was like seeing it for the first time. Gone was the arrogance and the anger he wore like a shield. The shield was lowered, and a boy I didn’t recognize was laid bare.

I loved the way this author portrayed his character and how she really brought the reader into his world. While this is a duel POV book, in many ways this felt to me like it was Cromwell’s story and when Bonnie came into his life, it was like this saving grace that allowed him to oh so slowly feel again, love again, and connect with his music.

“I saw him kiss you… and I see the way you look at him… And the way he looks at you.”
“How?”
“Like you’re his air. Like you’re the water to whatever hellfire lives inside him.”

Bonnie’s strength and perseverance and the way she saw right through Cromwell’s pain and knew that there was something he was hiding inside that she needed to get to and that she needed to help heal was really beautiful. I loved the way she didn’t give up on him – except that one time briefly, but I think we can all understand why.

“Cromwell doesn’t speak much with his voice, but he screams what he feels with melodies and notes and the change of keys.”

I’m not a big fan of comparing book, in fact I avoid it at all costs as a general rule but I will quietly mention that I do believe that if you were a fan of Beautiful Disaster, then you’ll definitely love this book. It’s not the same story at all, but just something about the feeling of the dynamic between Cromwell and Bonnie reminded me a little of the feeling I had when reading BD all those years ago.

I swear to you I read the second half of this book without stopping to breathe or blink. I was just glued to the page and couldn’t read fast enough. I just devoured the story needing them to be okay.

And omg, THE FEELS!!!!! The letter! The music! Their love! So many feels!

This was a truly beautiful book! I loved it and highly recommend it as a top favorite of the year!

Rating: 4.5+ STARS!! Contemporary NA Romance, can standalone.

Book Review — Tattered by Devney Perry http://aestasbookblog.com/tattered-review/ http://aestasbookblog.com/tattered-review/#comments Thu, 07 Jun 2018 18:18:32 +0000 http://aestasbookblog.com/?p=71616 Read More  >]]>

I’d never forgotten Thea, even after all these years…

HOLY FREAKING SQUEEEEEEEE!!! This was the ultimate perfect romance novel and easily one of my top favorite recommendations of the year!! Every book Devney Perry has written has been amazing and while I feel like I’ve said this about all her books, I truly mean it every time when I say that this was one of the best books I’ve read all year!! 5 STARS!

Tattered featured an incredibly strong single mom heroine unexpectedly reunited with the sexy but mysterious father of her child more than a decade after their one passionate night together. Watching them share a second chance at falling in love with each other, seeing how the hero tried so hard to be the best dad he could be for the daughter he’d only just found out about, and feeling how strongly the heroine supported her daughter through every new challenge they faced, and all that paired with beautiful writing really made this a truly wonderful read.

And not only was this a beautiful love story filled with heart-warming intensity, but it was also a gorgeous portrayal of motherhood in its purest form. I genuinely loved every single word of this book!

“How are we going to handle this?”
Her eyebrows came together. “Handle what?”
“Us. There’s no way I’m not going to kiss you today. I’m wondering if you want me to hide it from her. Or if you’re okay with her knowing that her dad is crazy about her mom.”

So to give a little bit more background, the real story began six years before the main story when Thea met Logan one night at a bar. At the time, she was a broke bartender living paycheck to paycheck, while he was a high-powered businessman from a wealthy family. They came from different worlds, walked in different circled, and yet they connected to each other with an intensity neither one of them could deny. But after sharing one passionate night together, they both agreed to go their separate ways without so much as knowing each other’s last names. And no matter how many times they tried to find each other again, it wasn’t until nearly half a decade later when fate brought them back together… and this time, Thea had someone new to introduce to Logan — his daughter, Charlie.

I’m a dad.
A father.
I couldn’t get the concept to sink in.
Did other fathers feel this whiplashed? Or dumbfounded? Maybe other men got used to the concept of fatherhood during pregnancy. They had time to adjust to the fact that a kid was coming. But I hadn’t gotten nine months. I’d gotten ninety seconds for all the puzzle pieces to fit together.
I had a child.
I had a daughter who was five, almost six, and had my crooked pinky.

OMGGG — exciting little side note. So while this book can be read as a complete standalone (it even has a beautiful epilogue!!), if you happen to be a big Devney Perry book fan, then you might recognize this hero as one of the side characters from The Clover Chapel (my review). I’m so so glad that he got to find his own HEA!

Ok, back to this book. I think my favorite part about this book was how mature both Logan and Thea were. They both made mistakes throughout the course of the book — all people do in life, after all — but they always had the best of intensions and their hearts were always in the right place so while some of their actions may have been misguided, they always came from a good place and I really admired how well they both (individually and together) handled every situation that came their way.

“You’re sure she’s mine?”
“She’s yours.”
“Then that’s good enough.”

It was heart-meltingly adorable beyond all reason to see how completely and wholeheartedly Logan embraced his role as Charlie’s dad. It was of course a shock to him at first, but even though he’d only just learned about her existence, he immediately welcomed her into his heart without any doubt or question.

“You’re nervous.”
“Terrified.” I nodded. “I have no idea what to say. Do I introduce myself as her dad? Or just Logan? Should I shake her hand? Or give her a hug? And that’s just the first give seconds we meet. What do I do after that? If I fuck this up, she’ll remember it forever.”

However, no matter how much Logan and Thea wanted to make everything work between them, the same things that had separated them that night they’d first met were still hurdles they had to face now. They still came from different worlds and wanted to live in different cities and neither one of them wanted to leave their lives behind, but they both wanted to be near Charlie.

My fears were getting the best of me. Every minute that passed without a call from him, I got more and more scared.
What if he wanted [our daughter]? What if he forced me to split custody? What if he demanded she live in New York?
I couldn’t go back to the city, not after I’d escape. Not after I’d come here and found the peace I’d craved my entire life.
But the bottom line was, I couldn’t live without my daughter.

Now this leads me to possibly my favorite thing about this book which was how amazing a mother Thea was. When Charlie first had misgivings about Logan, she never once tried to force the issue, and was so understanding that it truly melted my heart. And I loved the way she never tried to make Charlie conform to a life she didn’t want. She celebrated her wildness and encouraged her daughter to be strong and independent.

Her precious smile lit up her face.
Logan had asked me what I wanted last night. It was simple: a happy child.
I loved that Charlie was wild. I love that she ran free. New York and Logan’s family might kiss her tamped spirit. I couldn’t risk her suffocating here.
So I was taking her home.

Devney Perry is one of the best and most talented contemporary romance writers I’ve ever read. Her writing is addictive, her stories are addictive and full of heart, and every book she writes has become an instant favorite!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE!! Whether you’re a romance reader or not, this is a timeless story of love and family that is sure to appeal to the hearts of every reader out there!

Rating: 5 STARS!!! Contemporary Adult Romance, can standalone.

She laughed and kissed him. This morning she’d melted down. But somehow this man had her laughing and turned on only a few hours later. Everything inside her felt buoyed.

She felt…light.

She’d forgotten what that felt like.

SQUEEEEEEE!!!! YES YES YES!! This book was AMAZING! It’s actually the second one I’ve read by this author and I have to say I LOVE HER WRITING STYLE!!! The characters were STRONG, the romance was HOT, the story was so well balanced between HEART-WARMING, EMOTIONAL, and INTENSE feels, and I think the most important thing was that it truly made me CARE!!!

As a hardened divorce lawyer, Rebecca spent her life coaching people through the (often devastating) end of their love stories. To say she had little faith left in romance or true love would be an understatement.

Wes’ life had completely fallen apart. After an ugly divorce, he’d lost his dream job and restaurant, his wife, his money, and everything else that he held dear and he was spending his time teaching at risk kids how to cook.

Their lives were unexpectedly thrown together one night when he came to her rescue as two men mugged her. He didn’t recognize her at first, but she knew him as soon as she heard his name. Because not long ago, she was the lawyer who helped his ex-wife ruin him.

Shaken by the mugging and grateful for the kindness he was showing her, she didn’t want to sully the night by reminding him of who she was, besides, she had him painted as the villain — after all, she’d heard what his ex had said about him. But the man he was showing her he was wasn’t anything like what she expected. He took care of her the entire night, kept her safe, protected her, and stayed by her side.

And when the truth of who she was came out, he had to decide if he could fall in love with the woman who’d once destroyed his life. And had to open her mind to the possibility than maybe he wasn’t the man she thought he was and to allow him to show her who he really was.

OH MY GOSH, you guys!!!! THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!

This is one of those books that is just so purely well written that you can tell it’s a winner from the start. There’s no fluff or fuss. It has exactly all the right measures of everything it needs to make it a wonderful story. It was engaging and the truly stellar writing drew me completely into the story.

It’s funny but I was actually really torn on what book to read tonight. I had two top choices and couldn’t decide between them so I told myself that I’d read the first chapter of both and see what suited my mood more. Well… I got just a few pages into this book and immediately knew I’d be finishing it.

On every page, I felt totally engaged with and immersed in the story. I genuinely cared for these characters, I was intrigued by their history, I swooned over their romance, my heart-broke from their pain, and I was rooting for them to find a way to make a relationship work.

I really felt like this was a very well-rounded book. The steamy and swoony romance was balanced out by intense, heart-wrenching emotions from both Rebecca and Wes’ pasts and some current situations they were dealing with both separately and together. And finally my favorite part was that there was a deeply healing story arc that really gave this book that extra wow-factor that would make it a Top Favorite of the year for me.

You can read this book as a complete standalone if you want. It is however the second standalone in a series of interconnected standalones. I read the first one (see below) earlier this year and absolutely loved it as well so I’d definitely recommend both or either one of the books.

  • The One You Can’t Forget
  • was sweet, swoony, romantic, and full of feels. It was both heart-warming and heart-wrenching in just the right balance. In every way, this story checked all the right boxes for me. This is my second Roni Loren favorite in 2018 and it has definitely cemented her as one of my favorite authors whose next book I’m eagerly looking forward to!

(Sorry I don’t have quotes in this review because I wrote this review super fast after I finished reading. I’ll go back and add them in eventually.)

Rating: 4.5 STARS!! Contemporary Adult Romance, can standalone

NEW FAVORITE – NOW LIVE: I Flipping Love You by Helena Hunting (My Review)
WOOHOOOOOO!!!! It’s finally live! I read this romantic comedy that’s described as “a love story about flipping houses, taking risks, and landing that special someone who’s move-in ready” in one sitting and it was so fun!! The hero and heroine were complete opposites — the hero was sweet, swoony, and a little cocky, while the heroine was smart and sassy! While most of the book was filled with light-hearted fun flirty banter and romance, I also really liked that towards the end, it developed a bit of an angsty edge… This was a GREAT READ and it you’re looking for a romance that’ll make you smile, definitely grab your copy because it’s JUST WENT LIVE!! Oh, and it can totally standalone!

Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings. Sometimes first loves are the truest.”

He admires her ability to be true to herself, quirks and all, and accepts the challenges involved in pursuing a relationship with her… Jonathan and Annika bring out the best in each other, finding the confidence and courage within themselves to plan a future together. And, sure, he’s the hottest and most exciting thing to ever happen to my controlled, organized life. But still… It’s only a part-time marriage. I’m not going to give him my heart. I know what I’m doing, and I’m too smart to fall for my husband. I hope.”

Part-time Lover by Lauren BlakelyNew Release!!

Stanalone: “I’ll say this about him — he made one heck of a first impression. When I first saw the strapping man, he was doing handstands naked on a dock along the canal… so I did what any curious woman would do — I took his photo. I might have looked at the shot a few dozen times. Little did I know I’d meet him again, a year later, at a secret garden bar in the heart of the city, where I’d learn that his mind and his mouth were even more captivating. But given the way my heart had been trampled, I wanted only a simple deal — No strings. No expectations. Our arrangement worked well enough until the day I needed a lot more from him…”

    Mogul by Katy EvansNew Release!!

Can standalone: “He’s my most delicious secret. The hot Suit I had a one-night stand with one evening. I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name. Only that we shared a taxi, and he was staying at the hotel where I worked. We met in room 301. Where he commanded not only my body but my soul. The next day he was gone and I only had a memory of him. I could still taste his kisses, feel his demanding touch. I searched for him for months. Daydreaming about him. Wondering if I’d ever find him. Until the day I find myself staring face to face with his jeweled black eyes again… He says lets keep it casual, and my heart knows that falling for this workaholic in a three-thousand-dollar suit is off the table. Because he has a secret. One that’s a deal breaker for me. My Suit has a name. Ian Ford. And this is our story.”

    SHE’S GOT CURB APPEAL. HE’S A FIXER UPPER…

I Flipping Love You was another romantic comedy winner from Helena Hunting! I’ve loved many of her books over the years. I think the first one I read by her was about four years ago and ever since then I’ve always been excited for her new releases so I couldn’t resist diving into this one.

“Rian Sutter grew up with the finer things in life. Spending summers in the Hamptons was a normal occurrence for her until her parents lost everything years ago. Now Rian and her sister are getting their life, and finances, back on track through real estate. Not only do they buy and sell houses to the rich and famous but they finally have the capital to flip their very own beachfront property. But when she catches the attention of a sexy stranger who snaps up every house from under her, all bets are off…

Pierce Whitfield doesn’t normally demo kitchens, install dry wall, or tear apart a beautiful woman’s dreams. He’s just a down-on-his-luck lawyer who needed a break from the city and agreed to help his brother work on a few homes in the Hamptons. When he first meets Rian, the attraction is undeniable. But when they start competing for the same pieces of prime real estate, the early sparks turn into full-blown fireworks. Can these passionate rivals turn up the heat on their budding romance—without burning down the house?”

This book can be read as a complete standalone. You don’t need to read anything before or after this book unless you want to, but it is part of a series of slightly interconnected standalones. To explain further, the hero of this book is brothers with the heroine from Hooking Up (my review). And the hero from Hooking Up is brothers with the hero from Shacking Up (my review). I’ve read them all and they’re all great romcom recommendations, but they’re very well structured so that you can genuinely pick and choose whichever one/ones you want to read in any order.

In this book, a hilarious case of mistaken identity (her twin dinged his car, but he didn’t know there were two of her) put their relationship off to a rocky start involving a shopping cart to the groin, a dinged Tesla, and some choice words flung back and forth. But needless to say that once things got straightened out, Rian and Pierce were faced with the unavoidable fact that there was some pretty intense chemistry between them that they’d be fools to ignore…

“You have to admit, it’s interesting the way we keep running into each other lately…”
“And every single one of those interactions has been embarrassing for me.”
“I would say entertaining rather than embarrassing. Now, why don’t we start fresh, and this time I’ll try not to come off as a complete asshole, and we can pretend I haven’t asked you out and you haven’t said no half a dozen times, or accused me of trying to blackmail you into having sex with me.” I grin as I hold out my hand. “I’m Pierce.”

On paper, they were complete opposites with little in common, but in real life their differences worked in their favor because together they sparked. They say ‘opposites attract’ and with them that was exactly the case — their differences made them perfect for each other and I thoroughly enjoyed all the banter that ensued.

Pierce was a sweet and swoony hero with a bit of a cocky side to him, but overall he really was a pretty reasonable and genuinely nice guy who was refreshingly level headed, not to mention he also had a rather flirty and dirt side too that brought some added heat to this romance.

“Morning.” His deep, raspy sleep voice draws my gaze back to him. His one visible eye is barely a slit.
    “Hi.”
He smirks… “I cuddled the fuck out of you all night.”
    I laugh. “That you did.”
“You know what that means, don’t you?” He wraps his arm around me and pulls me closer. “It means we’re dating.”
I tip my chin up so I can see his face. His hair is a mess and he has pillow lines on his cheek. “How do you figure?”
“We had a sleepover and we spooned pretty much the entire night. Plus, we had a bath together, and I’ve taken care of you and all your bug bits, so that totally qualifies as dating behavior.”
… “I suppose that makes logical sense.”
His sleep-heavy eyes crinkle at the corners. “So you agree that we’re dating?”
“You didn’t really give me much of an opportunity to disagree, did you?”
“Since when does that stop you?” His lips meet my temple. “You know what we should do to celebrate this milestone in our relationship?”
“What’s that?” I throw my leg over his…
    “We should have Naked Sunday.”

Rian was a smart, savvy, and sassy heroine who spoke her mind and had her life completely in order. She’d fallen on hard times but didn’t rely on anyone to help her and I loved her can-do attitude towards life.

“Do you have any idea how sexy that is?”
“You think it’s sexy that I can do math in my head?”
“Yes. You’re gorgeous, outspoken, and intelligent. It’s a hard-on-inducing trifecta.”

While the majority of this book was filled with light-hearted, fun flirty banter and romance, I also really liked that towards the end, it developped a bit of an angsty edge as their family secrets came out and it became a race to right wrongs before things went to far… And the ending had just the heart-warming note I was hoping for!

“I’m one hundred percent in love with you, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do to change that.”

If you’re looking for a romance that’ll make you smile, try this!

Rating: 4+ stars. Contemporary Romance, can standalone.

Note: This book releases Monday at midnight and if you pre-order a copy it will automatically download to your eReader the moment it goes live so you don’t accidentally forget about it!

    Book Review — Fighting For Everything by Laura Kaye http://aestasbookblog.com/fighting-for-everything-review/ http://aestasbookblog.com/fighting-for-everything-review/#comments Wed, 23 May 2018 03:29:41 +0000 http://aestasbookblog.com/?p=71427 Read More  >]]>

“Don’t you understand that you’re everything to me?” she asked… “No matter how fucked up you think you are, no matter what problems you’re facing, you’re already enough for me!”

This was a beautiful, intense friends-to-lovers romance that I read in one sitting and loved! It featured a swoony, broken former Marine hero who felt lost in the world he returned home to and a strong heroine who was determined to help her best friend since childhood heal but who she never expected to fall head over heels in love with.

    “You’re everything to me…”
For a moment, silence rang loudly in the room, and then Noah’s heart was thundering so hard that the beat of his pulse in his ears was all he could hear. Everything? He was everything to her? How then fuck could that be, when he felt like so much… nothing?

After being discharged from the military, Noah struggled to adjust back to civilian life. The nightmares of what he’d survived and the friends he violently lost haunted him each day, and while his body wasn’t left physically scarred, the panic attacks resulting from his traumatic brain injury still affected his every day life leaving him depressed and desperate to reclaim any sense of the normality he’d once had. It was killing him to be surrounded by people who, no matter how much they cared for him, just didn’t understand the pain he was going through.

Sometimes, he really fucking wished he’d had a limb blown off, or that the injuries to the left side of his face hadn’t healed so well. Then at least he’d have an obvious reason for struggling to readjust to civilian life. Then people would look at him and just know what his fucking problem was.

The one bright spot in his life was his best friend. Every since childhood, she’d been there for him — a true kindred spirit. But their relationship had always been platonic before now — neither one of them every really seeing the other in a romantic light. However, for both of them, that was quickly beginning to change.

The attraction between them was strong and intense and neither one of them could deny it and soon they faced the reality that one way or another, their relationship would never be the same…

Kristina started at Noah’s back and wondered what the hell just happened.
The distant, sullen man who couldn’t be bothered to be interested in or spend five minutes with her was not the Noah she’d known most of her life. Tonight wasn’t the first time since he’d come home from the Marines that he’d acted weird around her. And weirdness was something they’d never had between them, not in all the years she’d known him, not when they’d confessed things to one another they would never otherwise say…
For a long moment, she stood at the edge of the party and debated, and then she decided — she wasn’t letting it go this time.
Her gut told her Noah needed her.

I think it’s a delicate balance to be able to make the whole “we can’t be more than friends or it’ll ruin everything” deal be believable in a story, but in this case I really found it did work. I’ll admit I was a wee bit annoyed with them at times, but on the other hand I could understand where they were coming from especially given the depth of their history and how sacred their friendship was to both of them. It was understandably precious to both of them.

Kristina got him like no one else did. She knew what he needed and how to make him feel better without pressing him to talk, without worrying over him, without making him feel like he couldn’t take care of himself. And even though that meant she realized that he wasn’t doing that damn great, the way she’d chosen to deal with it meant a lot to him. This. This was why Noah could never chance harming his relationship with Kristina.

This story was a lot hotter than I was expecting! As mentioned, Noah and Kristina shared an intense and undeniable attraction and that chemistry exploded over no matter how good their intensions to stay just friends were. I actually really loved the way they just couldn’t seem to stop themselves from being together.

“You’re the one I want. You’re the one I’ve always wanted. You’re my best friend, but you’re also the man I’ve fallen in love with.”

Overall, this was a great read. It was a very fast read for me — definitely a one-sitting story and one that I just devoured without stopping. It reads a standalone (complete with epilogue), but there will be more interconnected standalones in this series following this book that focus on other side characters/couples introduced in this book. It’s also written in third person, but from alternating POVs.

If you’re looking for something sexy but full of heart to read, check this out!

Rating: 4 stars!! Contemporary Adult Romance, can standalone.

When he wakes up. Well, that happened to me. And over coffee and omelets, I found myself a date. Which was how I ended up arriving at the wedding with a guy I knew nothing about. I didn’t know his last name, or how we met, or how long we’d been dating. I didn’t know where he grew up, what he’d majored in in college, or how many siblings he had. I sure as hell didn’t know he was Adam Winters, hotshot hockey player—and not only my father’s favorite player, but my little nephew’s freakin’ idol. Which means I’m in trouble. Big, big trouble. My mother is suspicious, my sister is bridezilla on crack, and my grandpa will tell anyone who’ll listen about his time in Amsterdam’s Red Light District. Four days. I have to keep this up for four days, and then Adam and I can return to our regular lives, where we don’t have sex whenever we’re alone and my family aren’t interrogating him over his intentions with me. At least, that’s the plan. And we all know what happens to those.”
    • It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time by Kylie Scott (standalone) was just announced!! — “Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was. Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town. Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings. Sometimes first loves are the truest.”
    • Indulge Me by Kristen Proby (With Me In Seattle series) was just announced!! — “Whether it’s a brunch hosted by Nate and Jules McKenna, or a fancy dinner party hosted by Luke and Natalie Williams, you won’t want to miss all we have in store for you! Each all-new story will feature shenanigans, laughter, love and lots of food. And let’s not forget cocktails! Kristen, along with USA Today Bestselling author Suzanne Johnson, have teamed up to bring you this cookbook, celebrating family, love, and absolutely delicious foods, perfect for any occasion. So sit back, or march straight into the kitchen, and get ready to indulge. We hope you’re hungry!”
    • Moore Than A Feeling by Julie A Richman (Needing Moore Series) was just announced!! — “My name is Holly Moore. Perhaps you know me. I’m Schooner and CJ’s daughter and if you’ve been wondering what’s been going on in my life… well, I’ve got a story to tell you… Dumped. No, not only dumped. Blindsided and dumped. One day I thought that he was my forever, my soulmate, and the next day he tells me he’s still in love with his ex. Seriously? So, I’ve moved on. Or tried to move on. But that hasn’t worked out so well for me. You see, my next boyfriend had a history with my stepmother. (Seriously. You really can’t make this stuff up! My family is like a giant soap opera) and when my mother got involved, well, let’s just say things usually don’t turn out so well for anyone when my mother gets involved. So I’ve finally started to get my life back together, and now, the man who broke my heart is standing right there, front and center. He’s everywhere I turn, pushing me away, and still telling me he doesn’t want me. But every time he calls me angel or reaches out to touch my cheek, I know what he’s not admitting to himself – he still loves me. And I’m going to prove it to him.”

Which is why Warrior Fight Club sounds so good.

Kristina loves teaching, but she wants more out of life. She wants Noah—the boy she’s crushed on and waited for. Except he is all man now—in ways both oh so good and troubling, too. Still, she wants who he’s become—every war-hardened inch. And when they finally stop fighting their attraction, it’s everything she never dared hope for.

Tethered Souls by Beth FlynnNew Release!!

Can standalone: “My family has secrets. I’m always the good girl, doing what’s necessary to keep my loved ones safe. I’ve kept the darkest secrets from everyone I know… I haven’t seen my closest childhood friend, Christian Bear, since I was a teenager—he hasn’t changed a bit. He’s still temperamental and plays by his own rules with the law following two steps behind him.

Christian remembers me. But he doesn’t know the first thing about me anymore. I should’ve shared my feelings with him the day before I moved away with my family, promising him I’d stay in touch. It broke my heart when he didn’t keep his end of the bargain. As a consequence, we haven’t spoken in years. Even though Christian and I have always had undeniable chemistry, I won’t let him shatter my heart a second time.

Christian has shown up in my life again with secrets of his own, and demanding answers. That doesn’t mean I’m willing to give them. He’ll know my secrets when I’m ready.

Our secrets, the risks we’re taking, and the danger he imposes make it impossible to know what our future holds.

Either our tethered souls will bind back together, or our secrets will separate us forever.”

The Controversial Princess by Jodi Ellen MalpasNew Release!!

His ability to penetrate her defences overwhelms her – his touch is pure fire, and his allure overpowering. Nothing has ever made her feel so alive in a world where she’s otherwise slowly drowning. However, while he may be Hollywood royalty, he’s not actual royalty, and she knows the King and his advisors will do everything in their power to keep them apart. But Josh Jameson becomes the princess’s ultimate vice. And although she bows to no one, she bows to him.”

The Red Ledger by Meredith WildNew Release!!

“The series follows Tristan Red, an assassin robbed of his memory after a military mission gone wrong. Not much gets his adrenaline going, but when his latest mark, Isabel Foster, she says his name seconds before he’s ready to pull the trigger, he’s gripped by a desire to know more.

She knows him, which means she knows things about his past that have been beyond reach for as long as he can remember.”

The Outsider by Stephen KingNew Release!!

Standalone: “An unspeakable crime. A confounding investigation. At a time when the King brand has never been stronger, he has delivered one of his most unsettling and compulsively readable stories.

An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

As the investigation expands and horrifying answers begin to emerge, King’s propulsive story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.”
