“Let go, I’ll catch you. I’ve got you in my arms, and I won’t let you fall.”
HOLY FREAKING SQUEEEEEEEE!!!
I just spent the last several hours glued to this amazing book that I read in one sitting and absolutely LOVED!! My heart was racing the whole time I was reading. This was easily the best book I’ve read in a long time! It was seriously angsty, and at times even heart-wrenching, but it was also incredibly romantic and full of deep feels!!
Guys, I literally cancelled dinner plans to keep reading. Honestly it was exactly the type of book I needed right now!! It’s a second chance love story with a bit of a twist. It has a strong heroine, a protective hero, and a little bit more that I don’t want to directly spoil for you – though it’s hinted at strongly in the blurb so you can have an idea of what to look forward to. Seriously if you’re looking for a GORGEOUS new book, I highly, highly recommend this!
One night, eight years ago, she gave me peace.
No names.
No promises.
Just two broken people, desperate to quiet their pain and grief. In the morning, she was gone and had taken my solace with her. I left for the military that day, vowing never to return to Pennsylvania.
When my father dies, I’m forced to go home to bury him. At least I’ll finally be rid of his farm, which is grown over and tangled with memories I’ve fought to forget.
And that’s when I find her. She’s even more beautiful than I remember and has the most adorable kid I’ve ever seen.
Years have passed, but my feelings are the same, and this time I refuse to let her go…
Corinne Michaels has been one of my favorite authors for many years, and for good reason. Her stories and characters are compelling. She brings them to life as you read and makes you care for them. You simply don’t have much choice in the matter.
So the story starts with Connor feeling lost after losing the brotherhood he’d built while being a SEAL. With nowhere to go and nobody to go home to, he wasn’t sure what he was going to do next, until an unexpected turn brought him back to him hometown – the one place he never wanted to be – and face to face with the woman whose name he’d never know but had stayed strong in his memory for the eight years since they shared one unforgettable night…
“His chest is broader than I remember.
And I remember everything.
His touch, his scent, the sound of his voice as he made love to me in a way I didn’t know existed.
I needed him and the memory of that night more than he can ever know. I’ve relived it so many times, clinging to those feelings that I was desperate for…
But now, him being here? It threatens everything — including the life of the little girl he’s standing next to.”
Ellie’s husband was abusive, controlling, and a danger to her and her daughter and she’s been planning to try and find a way for them to get away for a while. But after a horrific ordeal, fate put her and Connor back together in a way she’d never expected… giving the a second chance to explore what they’d never had a chance to so many years ago.
“You’ll heal, and I swear, he will never hurt you again.”
“I don’t know how you can promise that.
He pushes away from the rail. “Because he sure as fuck won’t hurt you if you’re in my house. If you choose to go back home, then we’ll come up with a lot of ways for you to protect yourself if he’s released from jail. Either way, tonight, tomorrow, or until you’re ready to leave, you’re safe with me.”
I loved how protective Connor was – a true hero by both nature and profession. I loved how patient and gentle he was with Ellie and Hadley. And I loved the slow build and the quiet intensity of the romance.
“I don’t care about any vows I made in the past because I would die before I’d let anything happen to Hadley or Ellie. I’ve know it from the minute I saw Ellie eight years ago, and that need for her is still as strong, but now, it’s the same with Hadley. This little girl will own my heart, regardless of whose blood runs in her veins.”
But my favorite thing of all was that while this story was angsty and full of drama, all of it made complete sense for both the story and characters. None of the the drama seemed out of place at any point, everything the characters faced (even the hard decisions) were understandable and that really created a cohesive reading experience that constantly made you feel sympathetic and understanding of the characters.
“I need you, Ellie. I don’t want to live in a world without you, damn it. I’ve done it before, and I don’t want to do it again.”
This is the first in a new series of standalones. This book has a fully resolved, wonderful ending complete with an epilogue. Each book will focus on a different brother in the hero’s family (we get introduced to them in this book) and I’m honestly looking forward to reading all of them!
If you’re looking for an amazing new book to read, this is definitely it!
Rating: 4.5 – 5 STARS! Contemporary Adult Romance, can standalone.

I love Corinne Michaels & sometimes her angst almost makes me stopping breathing but you have to keep reading to breathe – SO AWESOME!!
Thanks for your review because you gave the little push I needed to starting reading this one. I have downloaded it just waiting for the right time.
You must have people who understand you because I don’t think this is the first time you have cancelled your dinner plans 😉
