“Just lie back and relax, love…. Tell me if something feels good and scream all you want.”
Frenched was a fun, sexy romantic escape!! I read it in one sitting this afternoon and it was just a wonderful little getaway to a beautiful city with loveable characters, steamy hot sex and a whirlwind romance!!
The story is about Mia who is unceremoniously dumped by her fiance (by text!!!) a week before her meticulously planned wedding. Feeling miserable and utterly dejected, she holes up in her room which is where we join in the book. The opening line made me smile….
“Top Five Reasons (Out of 100) I Am NEVER Coming Out Of This Blanket Fort”
But her friends are determined not to let her mope around and convince her to go to Paris and use her pre-booked and paid for luxury honeymoon time as a way to just enjoy life and get back on her feet. So off she goes (somewhat reluctantly) to the city of love… alone.
“I tried to perk myself up with a stroll along the Seine, but my Independent Woman positivity had fizzled. Everywhere I looked I saw couples in love. Fucking EVERYWHERE.”
Frustrated and literally about to give up and go home, she wanders into a sports bar to hide from all the love. But when the sexy bartender, Lucas, hears her miserable tale of woe, he convinces her to stay one more day in the city to try and salvalge her trip and offers to be her tour guide.
Aaaaaaaand one thing leads to another and a whirlwind romance begins 😉
“Listen. I don’t know what kind of assholes you’ve been with before, but I promise you, your orgasm will not only make an appearance tonight, it will be the star of the show.”
Since the whole story was told from Mia’s perspective, I felt like I escaped away to Paris with her. We got to see her whole trip unfold and it was almost relaxing in a way — kind of like taking a mini vacation.
Overall, it really was a just a very sweet, fun read. It made me smile and laugh out loud, the sexy-times were hot (and frequent!!), and the general story was very low angst but still had me caring for the characters. I really liked both Mia and Lucas and genuinely enjoyed reading about them. Mia was loveable and Lucas was totally swoony and I was really rooting for them to make their chance encounter work long term.
My only complaint was that I found the ending to be abrupt. I would have really liked to have an epilogue that wrap things up more. However, it is not a cliffhanger and you are left in a happy place. But I would have liked just a little bit more .
Luckily, a follow-up novella Yanked (see below) was just released!!!
But as I said, I really think of this as a fun and sexy romantic escape. The perfect afternoon read!
