“Fairytales have a Prince Charming and a bad guy. Life isn’t so black and white. Sometimes Prince Charming is both.”
OMG!! This book was amazing!! The story had it all: a tortured but swoony hero, a strong and confident heroine, a sexy hot romance, moments that absolutely broke my heart, and an ending that brought happy tears to my eyes!
“Terminated for inappropriate behavior.
I couldn’t believe the letter in my hands.
Nine years. Nine damn years I’d worked my butt off for one of the largest companies in America, and I was fired with a form letter when I returned home from a week in Aruba.
All because of a video taken when I was on vacation with my friends—a private video made on my private time. Or so I thought…
Pissed off, I cracked open a bottle of wine and wrote my own letter to the gazillionaire CEO telling him what I thought of his company and its practices.
I didn’t think he’d actually respond.
I certainly never thought I’d suddenly become pen pals with the rich jerk.
Eventually, he realized I’d been wronged and made sure I got my job back.
Only…it wasn’t the only thing Grant Lexington wanted to do for me.
But there was no way I was getting involved with my boss’s boss’s boss. Even if he was ridiculously gorgeous, confident, and charming.
It would be completely wrong, inappropriate even.
Sort of like the video that got me into trouble to begin with.
Two wrongs don’t make a right.
But sometimes it’s twice as fun.”
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting this book to be as emotional as it was but HOLY FREAKING FEELS! The story started out light, fun, and flirty, with wicked banter and sizzling sexual tension. But the more things got serious, and as backstories were revealed there were some truly gut-wrenching heart-breaking moments that really gave this story such strong emotional depth.
The story goes back and forth between the present day when the hero and heroine meet (which is totally hilarious btw) and Grant’s past growing up as a foster kid and the deeply tragic circumstances it led to.
I loved several things about this book. I loved that the heroine may have swooned over the hero but she never lost her head and genuinely made smart decisions when it came to how she handled their relationship.
I looked him in the eyes. “Do you just want to sleep with me, or do you want to actually take me out?”
Grant smiled. “Yes.”
I laughed and shook my heart. “I appreciate the honesty. But can I think about it?”
His cocky smile fell. “Of course.”
“Thank you. Have a good night, Grant.”
I loved that once their relationship began to develop, they were refreshingly open and honest with each other.
He cradled my face between his hands and spoke into my eyes. “I want more with you. But I’m not sure what I’m capable of, Ireland. I won’t promise you something I’m uncertain I can delivery. Yet I’d like to try to make this work.”
I loved how well-balanced the lighter, fun parts of this book were with the darker, tragic sides to the story.
“Fairytales have a Prince Charming and a bad guy. Life isn’t so black and white. Sometimes Prince Charming is both.”
And finally I loved the writing. Vi Keeland has been one of my favorite authors for quite a long time because her stories really stand out to me. They almost always surprise me a little, they’re addictive, and well-written. I’ve loved many of her books over the years, and this one was no exception.
He held out his hand. “Dance with me.”
I shook my head. “I’m not sure that’s such a good idea.”
He smirked. “I’m fucking positive it’s not.”
All in all, I loved this book and would highly recommend it to all fans of the romance genre as a delightful, surprisingly emotional, sexy romance that is definitely a new favorite of mine!
