“Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about getting my name tattooed on your forehead?”
One of my favorite rock star romances last year was Lick by Kylie Scott so when I just had to read this one too. Play was Mal’s story. He was one of the Stage Dive band mates and let me tell you, he was just something else. *shakes head and chuckles* — He was totally different than every other rock star I’d read about… honestly, he was just a total goof! But, a loveable goof. Described by his friends as a “puppy on steroids” he had limitless energy and was a never ending ball of fun.
“Why don’t you go ask her what her name is?” suggested Ben, patting him on the back.
“Do I need to know her name?”
“I’ve heard it helps.”
“Maybe for you,” Mal scoffed. “I just call out my own name during sex.”
But I’m getting ahead of myself here. The story was about Anne who was left on her own when her roommate borrowed all her cash and skipped out of town. Faced with mounting bills, her options were very limited. But when her friends insisted she come to a party with their rock star friends from Stage Dive, she decided to take the night off and have a little fun. She’d had a crush on the drummer, Mal, since she was a teenager and so meeting him was pretty much a dream come true… But what she didn’t expect was, after their brief meeting, to come home the next day to find him moved into her apartment. For reasons he refused to tell her, he needed a pretend “serious girlfriend” and he’d decided it was going to be her…. 😉
“And you know I’m a fucking delight to have around. People don’t always get that about me. Plus, I’ll open jars and lift heavy shit. I hear those are issues for women.”
He bounced around the room. Good god, this man had energy to spare like he snorted sugar.”
Like I said, Mal was just a wee bit crazy and I’ll admit that I wasn’t all that sure about him at first. He just wasn’t quite my “type” of guy… but he soon won me over with his charm. It was little things here and there, moments of clarity where you could see how much he genuinely cared that made me just accept him as he was and once I got used to the, um, unique stride of his life, I really started enjoying the story.
“You’re that good, huh?”
He leveled me with a look. “Miss Rollins, you have no idea.”
“You know, I honestly can’t decide if your ego is repulsive or just impressive.”
The book was full of hilarious one-liners that had me chucking and laughing out loud over and over again…
“Don’t be down, dude. It’s only natural my alpha sperm would make you feel pitifully inadequate.”
And…
“If you hurt her, Ev and I are going to take turns disembowelling you with a shovel. Be warned.”
Oh, and the whole hilarious thing with the thin walls in their apartment…
“From next door came banging on the wall. “I already knew Mal’s name, Anne. But thanks for the reminder.”
I used the last of my energy reserves to give the wall finger. “Mornin, Lauren.”
Distantly, there was laughter, male and female both. Our neighbours sucked.
“We need to kill them or move,” I said. “I’m open to either option.”
Lol!!
All in all this book was a fun rock star romance read. I read it in one sitting with a smile on my face a lot of the time and while I didn’t quite connect with it on the same level as I did with Lick, I still enjoyed it and am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!
