SQUEEEE!!! OMG! This is my favorite book I’ve read in a long time!
KA Tucker has been one of my favorite authors ever since I started my blog — actually, her debut novel Ten Tiny Breaths was one of the first books I ever reviewed — and one of the coolest things about her as an author is that her writing has only gotten stronger over time. Even back when I read TTB, it was so clear to me that she was a gifted author. But I’ve continued reading her books over the last seven years years and the strength of her writing style is something that has always stood out to me very distinctly. She has a way of drawing you into the story, compelling you to care for the characters, and making you lose yourself in their world. Not to mention that her previous novel The Simple Wild was one of my Top Favorite books last year so all in all when she releases a new book, I’m always eager to read it. And this book now easily sits on my list of Top Favorites for this year.
As soon as I started reading this book, I was captivated by this love story about a privileged, ambitious girl from a wealthy and well-meaning-but-overbearing family who fell in love with a boy from the wrong side of the tracks at a summer camp. Despite coming from such different worlds, it was undeniably clear that they were perfect for each other. Near the end of the summer a tragedy tore them apart and it wasn’t until thirteen years later when he landed a security guard job at the building of the company she now ran that their paths crossed and they were given a second chance at the love story they were denied so many years ago…
“Even after all these years, with college and boyfriends, and my career and my engagement, Kyle Miller has always been a sliver in my heart, a shadow in my thoughts. A lingering “what if” that I have never been able to truly shake.”
I’ll be honest, second chance romances are my favorite of all time because it’s actually like you get to experience two love stories in one — the past, and the present. The past is always so special and new, and the present is usually intensified by so many years apart. Now, I know that if you’re anything like me as a reader, you’ve already read a lot of books with this type of storyline, but I promise you this one is unique and worth the read! Even though the whole “fall in love, get torn apart, get reunited” storyline isn’t new, to me at least it’s all about _how_ it’s told and this book… this book has FEEEEEEEEELS!!! The story stole my heart. I loved the characters and I felt so invested in their relationship which resulted me me being completely unable to put the book down. My heart raced as I read, I highlighted so much of the book, and I loved how it ended.
There’s also something incredibly intense about a forbidden love story — and this was certainly one of those! At every turn, the hero and heroine had to hide their relationship from the world and the secrecy and stakes if they were found only served to intensify the emotions and the story. Gah, there were just SO MANY FEELS!
My heart skips a beat and then begins racing.
“Is that—?” I cut myself off, not wanting to presumer too much. But when I meet Kyle’s eyes — the questioning gaze in them — and hear his sharp intake of breath, I know without a doubt the answer.
His jaw tenses, but then he smiles. “Favorite place in the world. Favorite summer.” His eyes flash downward to my lips. “Favorite girl.”
This book was absolutely amazing! Captivating and beautifully emotional, this was the ultimate, heart-warming romantic escape and a top favorite of the year!! I highly recommend it!
Rating: 4.5+ STARS!! Contemporary Adult Romance Standalone.

Hey! I’m glad to hear that! I’ve actually just read a bunch of upcoming books so those reviews will be coming. I don’t like to release reviews toooo far in advance though. Also, if I read a book that’s good but not OMG-SQUEE-worthy, I’m sometimes just not motivated to review it. I’d rather make it so when I reviewed a book, it was a seriously incredible read. And for whatever reason, my recent reads haven’t blown my mind. It’s more just me trying to be authentic instead of reviewing for the sake of reviewing. And while that’s happening I’ve just been keeping you guys up to date on all new releases & sales. And if I find something squee-worthy in the meantime I’ll always tell you guys but if not then sometimes I’ll focus on rereads to get myself back in the new book mood.
