“I can’t promise you romance and forever any more than you can promise me the same. This life, it doesn’t leave much room for anything but baseball, but I can promise you my free time when I get it. My attention when it’s mine to give to something other than the game. My loyalty and devotion.”
Sports romance fans, this was such a good read!! I loved it! It had a sexy, swoony, heartbreakingly sweet hero who not only had fallen head-over-heels in love with the heroine but was also a loving, caring guardian to his three younger sisters. Seriously. Talk about SWOOOOOOOON!!!!! And his relationship with the heroine was all kinds of forbidden because they worked together so everything had to be secret… I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a swoony light-hearted romance with heart-melting hero to fall in love with!!
The story is about Allie, who is the only woman working for the San Diego Shocks, a professional baseball team, as their new athletic trainer. She’s worked hard to get to where she is and despite the long hours, traveling, and insinuations that her coveted job may have been given to her due to her gender and not her qualifications, she’s determined to make this job work and that involves being sure to remain purely professional with all the players.
But Luke Archer has other plans. As the team’s star player, he’s used to being in the spotlight and going after what he wants. And he’s decided that he wants her. So he turns up the swoon and charm to full power and makes it his mission to woo her.
However, she’s not about to risk everything she’d worked for just a fling and the media portrays him as a player. So it’s up to him to convince her that he’s not what they say he is, that he’s serious about her, and that he’s willing to do anything to prove to her that he’s in this for good…
“You know my opinion on rumors?” he said a minute later… “That they’re started by haters. Spread by fools. And accepted by idiots.”
My head tipped. “Are you calling me an idiot?”
His eyes flashed. “Are you calling me a manwhore?”
Luke was the ultimate swoony book boyfriend. I loved the way he had no problems being open about his feelings for her and it was strangely heart-warming to see who unabashedly bold he was about trying to convince her that he was serious. But it didn’t mean he couldn’t have a little fun with it all too 😉
“You need a way to burn off some extra energy, I’ll work up a plan…”
“Would this plan have anything to do with you and me horizontal in my bed?”
… “Archer,” I said in warning while I filled his water bottle.”
“Fine, fine… You and me vertical up against my hotel shower wall?”
On the other hand, she’d been burned too many times to give her trust without good reason so she had to decide if she should trust the open, caring, seemingly devoted man he was showing her he was, or if she should believe everything the media told her.
“Why a date?” I asked… “It isn’t like you have to woo me or anything. We kind of plowed through the normal steps of relationship progression.”
A goofy grin spread on his face… “And what if I want to ‘woo’ you?”
“And what if I’m not the kind of girl who wants to be wooed?”
“You don’t have to be into jewelry and movie dates to be wooed. You’re special. I want to show you that. I want to prove that to you.”
All in all, this was a fast-paced, purely light-hearted sports romance with a whole lot of swoon, sexiness, and fun!! I loved reading it and I’m thrilled to call it a new favorite and would happily recommend it to all romance readers!
Rating: 4-4.5 stars. Standalone NA sports romance.
