She’s back home in Montana, ready to start fresh. She’s got a long list of amends to make and relationships to rebuild, including one with the man who has owned her heart for sixteen years…
HOLY FREAKING SWOOOOOOON!!
This was one of the best books I’ve read all year! It was pure alpha romance perfection with a strong, feisty heroine, a swoon-worthy cowboy hero, and an utterly gorgeous love story!! I’ve loved every book Devney Perry has written and this was another top favorite! It was passionate, heart-felt, and sexy, with just enough suspense to keep my heart racing on every page. In my eyes, this was the perfect romance novel. I highly recommend it to everyone!
Since she released her first book earlier this year, Devney Perry has become one of my all-time favorite authors. Her books have the exact perfect balance of everything I love to read about in romance. Her writing flows smoothly and is incredibly engaging, her character development is strong and multi-layered, her stories are emotional, romantic, a little suspenseful, and always full of heart, and each one of her books is unique. I can’t praise her writing enough and I literally love every single part of her books. She’s one of the few authors whose books I now purchase even before reading the blurb because I’ve come to trust that the type of stories she tells are exactly the kinds of books I always want to read. Each one is sweet, sexy, suspenseful, addictive, and full of heart — the perfect romance novel!
Here’s the blurb for this book to give you an idea of what it’s about…
Felicity’s life story reads like the script to a bad soap opera. Girl’s high-school boyfriend becomes a drug addict. Girl falls for boyfriend’s best friend. Girl leaves them both behind only to return home years later for murdered ex-boyfriend’s funeral. Now she’s back home in Montana, ready to start fresh. She’s got a long list of amends to make and relationships to rebuild, including one with the man who has owned her heart for sixteen years.
Silas doesn’t need much. He’s got a great horse, close friends and the Lucky Heart ranch, but something has always been missing. He’s not an idiot. He knows the missing piece is Felicity. And now that she’s returned to Prescott, he’s got a second chance to win her heart. This time, the only thing standing in his way is history. Drudging up the past is going to be about as painful as playing tug of war with barbed wire. But if they can heal old wounds, he’ll get the girl he should have had all along…
In the first few chapters, I’d already highlighted more quotes than I do in most full novels. So it was a true testament to the amazing writing that I just could not stop highlighting everything I was reading.
Felicity was a fantastic heroine. She was prickly on the outside, strong-willed, and fiery. I absolutely freaking loved her attitude and the way she wasn’t afraid to stand up to anyone. And underneath all her sass, she also had a very soft heart that had never stopped loving the one man she’d left behind over a decade ago when she fled town.
I raised my fist and banged on the door, taking out some of my frustration on its wooden face.
“Coming,’ she called. She must not have checked the peephole because when she opened the door, she sucked in a sharp breath.
Fuck. Why did she have to be so beautifully sad. All I wanted was to pull her into my arms.
Silas was an utterly swoon-worthy hero. He is guaranteed to steal your heart. His devotion to Felicity was so touching and sweet. He had secretly loved her since the very beginning and my heart broke for him. He was a former marine and now cowboy who was given an unexpected second chance to show the only girl he’d ever loved how deeply he cared for her, he wasn’t going to lose it.
I was thirty-six years old and this would be my last chance to win Felicity’s heart. I couldn’t risk rushing things and fucking up my chance…
If she wanted to work on the ranch this spring, I’d let her. We’d do this friend thing until then, because once she set foot on the Lucky Heart, I was making her mine.
While they shared a tumultuous, painful, and rocky history, it was undeniable that they loved each other like crazy and belonged together. My heart was racing as I read. These characters’ love, loss, pain, happiness, and desires were portrayed so vividly. When reading this book, it felt like I knew them personally and I was so invested in their story.
“Are you every going to tell me what’s going on between you two?”
I chuckled. “Is it that obvious?”
“Probably just to me because I’m so brilliant. And I may have seen you sneak out of her motel room… So spill. What’s going on?”
I sighed. “There’s a lot of history there. Good and bad. Lots of gaps in between. She hurt me once, but even after that, she’s always been with me. Ever since we were kids.”
“You love her.”
There was no use denying it… “Yeah.”
After Felicity moved back to town, I loved the realistically slow build of their relationship. But because they weren’t rushing things, by the time they’d worked up to their first kiss my heart was just pitter-patttering all over the place and I was practically breathless. It was incredibly fulfilling to see them find their way back to each other.
“Now what?” She smiled against my skin…
“Whatever you want.”
“I want babies,” she declared.
I chucked at her bluntness. “Then stop taking those pills and I’ll give you babies.”
And my favorite thing about Felicity and Silas as a couple was how functional they were once they officially got together. I loved how open they were with their fears and feelings, and the way they always had each other’s backs no matter what. It was so clearly ‘them against the world’ no matter what and I just LOVED that!!
I tried to read this book as slowly as I could to savor it but I was so engaged in the story that I ended up devouring it in one sitting. Luckily, it’ll make a fantastic re-read so I have no doubt I’ll be coming back to it several times over.
Oh, also… the epilogue is AMAZING!!!!!!!!
“I can’t believe you remembered.”
“I remember everything.”
This is a standalone in a series of standalones. You can totally read it separately if you want, however ALL the books are top favorites of mine so I strongly urge you to read them all. Especially since all the stories take place in the same town so the friendship and family dynamics that build over the series are something you don’t want to miss out on. For reference, this heroine is the sister of the hero from the first standalone and this book was kind of set up at the end of that one so if you’ve read them all you’ll immediately know where this one slots into the whole timeline.
This is the complete honest truth: from the day I started blogging, I have never before seen a series of standalones as solid as this one. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it once again because she has proven it each time she writes a new book — Devney Perry writes the exact kinds of books I most love to read. She has perfected romance. Each one of her books feel unique and each couple’s story has a different place in my heart. And yet they all share the common foundation of sweet and emotional love stories, vivid storytelling, passionate romance, and just enough suspense to keep my heart racing. Those of you who have been following my blog for a while will understand how big of a deal it is for me to say that I love Devney Perry’s books on the same level that I love Kristen Ashley and Colleen Hoover’s.
If you’re looking for an amazing book series to fall in love with, I can’t recommend this highly enough! And this book was one of the most heart-felt, purely romantic stories I’ve ever read!! A top favorite!
PS: these are literally my favorite book covers of any series EVER.
Rating: 5 STARS!! Contemporary Adult Romance, can standalone
