He’d become a parent overnight, and just as quickly he’d come to love the little babies sleeping in the other room.
SWOOON!!! Awww!! This was such a good book!
The hero is a tortured, tattooed ex-con who also happens to be a total sweetheart and his life changes when his drug-addicted mother dies suddenly leaving behind 2 little kids (his siblings) that he never knew existed. He immediately takes them in — essentially becoming a single dad overnight — knowing nothing about raising kids but determined to give them the best life he can… and that’s when he meets the heroine! She sees this sexy guy in the store with a toddler and baby and he’s clearly trying to care for them but totally at a loss and she steps right into their lives and helps out!!! And they fall in looooooove and just AHHH!!! LOTS OF GOOD FEELS!! So glad I decided to read this!
I actually bought this book the day it was released several months ago because of how much I loved the sound of it but I guess just for one reason or another, never found the time to read it but today, I was thoroughly undecided about what to read and then just tried the first chapter of this one and couldn’t stop reading!
For those of you who love ‘swoony insta-dad’ type heroes, you’re definitely going to want to check this book out. It was absolutely heart-melting to see the way he took his baby siblings in without question when they needed him. The poor guy had had a rough go of life. After a neglected childhood, being betrayed and jailed for a crime that wasn’t even his fault, he had every reason to be angry at the world, and yet he still was such a sweet person — willing to put everything he had on the line and sacrifice anything for his family.
He laid the baby on the bed and pushed his hair away from his face, hoping Kennedy might see he wasn’t a bad guy…
“I’m your brother,” he said softly, swallowing past the lump in his throat… “My name’s Truman, and I’ll take care of you from now on.”
I also loved the heroine! She spoke her mind, was bold, inquisitive, and unafraid. She’d dreamt of having children her whole life but a birth defect prevented her from ever being able to bear her own. And when she saw him trying to juggle the two kids and so clearly in need of help, she couldn’t resist going right over.
“Three days ago, princesses weren’t even on my radar,” he whispered over her lips. “Now I’ll never be able to hear that word without remembering [you] helping my kids…”
“Your kids,” she said with a shaky voice.
“Brother and sister,” he corrected, then thought better of it. “But they’re babies. They feel like they’re my kids even though they’re my siblings… They’re my kids, Gemma,” he repeated. “Have been since the day I found them.”
This majority of this story was sexy, swoony and oh-so-sweet! Admittedly, things got a wee bit mushy-cheesy at times but I generally really enjoyed it! There’s a bit of angsty coming from the fact that of course, she doesn’t know about his past and also there’s the question of how an ex-con could get custody of two small children but, much to my happiness, this was a standalone and I can assure you that it has a beautiful ending with a wonderful epilogue!
Rating: 4 stars! Contemporary Adult Romance Standalone.
