WOOHOOOOO!!!! Look what just arrived in my mailbox!!!
Thank you Colleen Hoover for these beautiful signed copies of Slammed and Point of Retreat!!<3 <3 You made my day!!!
Can’t wait for book 3 🙂

Again, just like with book 1, almost 4 stars but not quite… maybe more like 3.5
I feel like something must be wrong with me because everyone else who read these books seems to have sobbed their way through them but I only even got misty eyed about 5 times between the 2 books…
This book is told from Adam’s perspective, several years after Mia got on a plane to go to Julliard and basically never looked back…. his own band skyrockets to world-wide fame in the mean time and he is in NYC one day just before he is about to go on tour and happens to have a few free hours where, by chance, he sees one of Mia’s performances and ends up reconnecting with her over the course of a 24 hour period…
I guess maybe part of the reason I didn’t connect with the characters as much as that their feelings for each other weren’t really spoken about that much until the end. It felt like this book was more about Adam trying to find outwhy she left him so abruptly, but less about their longing for each other. I didn’t intensity or sparks between them… which is something I usually really look for.
Also, I never understood why he wouldn’t go after her?? If my boyfriend left suddenly and didn’t return my calls/emails, and I felt as strongly for him as Adam apparently felt for Mia, I’d hop on a plane and deal with it. I’d want answers… I couldn’t relate to him leaving the subject alone for so many years without ever doing anything about it.
“But…” I grasp for the words like a drowning man reaching for floating debris, “… you said you hated me?”
Mia lets out a long, deep sigh. “I know. I needed someone to hate, and you’re the one I love the most, so it fell to you.”
Also, this story was very YA and although I have read many YA books that gave me a close connection to the characters, I feel that this one could have used at least a few more scenes where Adam and Mia’s attraction to each other was explored. I knew they cared for each other, but I didn’t have much in the way of scenes that made me feel it. There was a lot of time devoted to Adam thinking about the past, but I guess the romance reader in me I wanted more Adam + Mia time.
But like I said with book 1, I think this would make an absolutely phenomenal movie. It really reads almost like one. I think it would make an even better movie that it is a book.
I loved the snippets of songs from Adam’s rock band though. They were great and really tied in beautifully with the story.
“First you inspect me
Then you dissect me
Then you reject me
I wait for the day
That you’ll resurrect me.”
It did have a HEA though 🙂
After this, I’m going to take a break from YA… I’ve read a bunch recently and as much as I love them, I think I need a hot steamy romance with a hunky possessive tortured bad boy hero next 😛

MAKE IT A DOUBLE by Sawyer Bennett <– My Newest Recommendation!!
I finished this book at 3AM last night and LOVED IT!!!!! The hero spent the last 5 years in prison and had lost everything important to him and the heroine has distanced herself from the life of luxury she came from and she spends her time helping abused animals in a shelter. When she meets him, they actually don’t get off on the best of terms right away but they have this really strong connection and she “is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.”
I’ll have a real review up tomorrow but basically, I read it as a standalone even though it’s technically the second in a series of standalones. The first book is about the twin brother of the hero in this book but personally it was this story that intrigued me and I thought the author did a fantastic job of filling in any blanks so I still felt fully connected to all the characters (and this is coming from someone who is really OCD about reading books in order so I promise it’s okay)… but yeah – totally LOVED it and highly recommend it. It was a really sweet read with a very unique twist to it and it had a really wonderful balance of an intriguing storyline, a SWOONY romance, crazy hot sex, but also really great character development, and a nicely paced relationship (no insta-love). Just my kind of read!! 😀
ROOM FOR YOU by Beth Ehemann — Top Recommendation!!! (Read my review)
I LOOOOOVED this book and it’s still one of my top recommendations of the moment!!! It was a sweet, swoony, heart-melting, romance, perfectly balanced with just enough angst to keep me on my toes. The heroine is a single mom with 2 little twin girls, and the hero is a famous hockey player (but she doesn’t know that) and a storm strands him at the Inn she runs with her mom and he has to stay a few days…. ok, and just get this — he calls her little girls his Twinkies!!! OMG *SWOON*
It’s the first of a 2-book series (both books are about the same couple, and both are available) and I read the sequel right after and loved it just as much as the first one!! I highly recommend them both!!! SO. MUCH. SWOOOOOON. !!!! Reading order: #1 ROOM FOR YOU, #2 ROOM FOR MORE.
REGRET TRILOGY SALE BUNDLE by AL Jackson – Huge New Sale!!!

PHENOMENAL X by Michelle Valentine — New Release <– I want to read this!
This new FIGHTER ROMANCE is just went live and I love the sound of it!! The hero is the “newest superstar of professional wrestling” and the heroine “accepts a job as the assistant to wrestling’s most notorious bad-boy” ➜ Good Girl. Notorious Bad-Boy. One Phenomenal Love.
BRUTALLY BEAUTIFUL by Christine Zolendz — $0.99 Sale + Recommendation
Omg, I loved this book!!! It can be read as a standalone and it was kind of dark & twisty but also quite funny and it had fantastic writing!!! If you are a fan of dark, tortured heroes and strong heroines, definitely grab this book!! Also, I think fans of Night Owl might like this.
LEGAL BRIEFS by N.M. Silber — $0.99 Sale
This one sounds like a lot of fun!! ➜ “Once upon a time, childhood enemies grew up and fell in love… Can they manage to date without anyone sustaining injury? The first 3 books in this fantasy/paranormal romance series have been bundled for $0.99 total & the price of the newest book has also dropped to $0.99!! The description I saw of a “sexy story that packs a powerful emotional punch” from one blurb made me one-click!!

A reader just recommended this series to me and I haven’t read them myself but I’m passing along the links if you want to check them out. This is a “dominant billionaire” type story – the hero is a billionaire hacker who owns a company that the heroine is trying to get to invest in her project… #1 Hardwired, #2 Hardpressed, #3 Hardline (June)
LOVE, IN ENGLISH by Karina Halle — New Release
This is a new standalone forbidden/taboo romance that’s been getting great ratings!! I haven’t read it myself but the blurb says ➜ “when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the damn truth.”
FIGHTING TO FORGET by J.B. Salsbury — I just finished this!! (Read my Review)
This is a second chance romance between a tattooed, pierced fighter and the girl from his past that he can’t remember but who can’t forget him!! — “She’s watched him, followed him and kept tabs, all in preparation for this moment: to make amends and share the secret she’s been carrying since she was a kid…”

I read this recently and really enjoyed it!! It’s a beautiful standalone romance about a woman whose husband dies and donates his organs. She spirals into misery but decides to go searching for these people who benefitted from his death and….. “The heart that once fell in love with her now resides in Alexander McBride’s chest.”

UNFIXABLE by Tessa Bailey — $0.99 New Release (Read my Review)
I read this a few days ago and loved it! It was fun, sexy, and light-hearted. Honestly, it felt exactly like “reading” a romantic comedy movie — great banter, a hot hero, a snarky heroine, a little bit of drama thrown in and a happy ending. The heroine was a “sarcastic American girl” fresh off a bad break up who wemt to Ireland where she met a “dark-haired, blue-eyed” famous race car driver “with a bad attitude that rivals her own.”
HAPPENSTANCE by Jamie McGuire — New Announcement + Pre-Order
Jamie McGuire has announced this new 100 page novella that’ll be released in just a few weeks on May 9th!! The cover is just stunning and the story sounds interesting! If you want to find out more about the story, you can read the full blurb and preorder at this link.

I’ve had this on my TBR for a while and it’s on sale now!! After a wave of violent crime on her university campus, the heroine takes up a school sponsored self-defense seminar, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles… (This book can be read as a standalone)
ESCORTED by Claire Kent — $0.99 Sale
“She hired him to take her virginity…but now she wants even more.” — This standalone is only $0.99 (reg. $3.99) The heroine is a popular romance writer who just hadn’t had any personal luck at finding love and is a virgin so she “decides to take matters into her own hands [and] hires a talented, sexy male escort to take care of her inconvenient virginity”
ROCKED by Taryn Elliot & Cari Quinn — $0.99 Sale
This is getting great ratings and at 474 pages, it’s quite a full-length book!! It’s the first in a new rock star romance series. The hero is part of band on tour and the heroine is actually their chef “who makes him crave a lot more than what she’s offering on her serving plate.”
LOSING IT by Cora Carmack — $1.99 Sale (Read my review)
I read this book a while ago but remember that it was really cute & funny!! The heroine is tired of being the only one of her friends who is still a virgin so her solution is a one-night stand. But she freaks and leaves the gorgeous guy alone in her bed… But when she walks into the first day of her class, “she recognizes her new theater professor. She’d left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.”
KISS THIS by Hadley Quinn– $0.99 Sale
I’ve had this book on my TBR for a long time too. It’s about a girl who lost her first love tragically and since then has promised herself she wouldn’t kiss anyone she didn’t love. When she meets the hero, he’s the first guy to make her want to disregard that rule and so she makes a bet not to kiss him for a week… oh, and he has a secret!
THE SECRET OF ELLA AND MICHA by Jessica Sorensen — $0.99 Sale
I read this way back when it first came out and fell in love with it!! I know many of you have read it already but if anyone hasn’t, this is a great deal on a beautiful friends to lovers story about a girl from a broken home and the bad boy who made her feel loved and safe again
PRICE OF A KISS by Linda Kage — $0.99 Sale (My review)
Awww, this book was fun and swoony!! It’s a standalone where the heroine has a history of impossible relationships and the hero turns out to be a gigolo. Teehee!! ➜ “He could be my soul mate…except for one teeny tiny glitch. He’s a gigolo. Boy, do I know how to pick them.”
LEGAL AFFAIRS by Sawyer Bennett — Serial Sale Bundle
Since I’m a new fan of Sawyer Bennett, I’ve been one-clicking a bunch of her books and noticed that the complete LEGAL AFFAIRS series (all 6 volumes from the serial) have been bundled together. This is an office romance with a “whole lot of hot and a little bit of funny” and REALLY high ratings!! I’m looking forward to them!
NIGHT AFTER NIGHT by Lauren Blakely — New Release
Oooh a dirty talkin’ hero!! The blurb calls it a “sensual, emotionally-charged erotic romance” and the heroine is (literally) a wanted woman – “the stakes are high, her every move is watched, and yet the lure between them can’t be denied.” This book also includes the prequel novella in it.
HARD TIME by Cara McKenna — New Release
I love the sound of this!! The heroine of this book has a new job is working as a librarian at a prison and the hero …. is an inmate!! And they begin a forbidden romance. I love different sounding books so this one definitely caught my attention!

❤ RECENT RECOMMENDATIONS ❤
❤ HUGE PREORDER LIST ❤

Almost 4 stars.
“If I stay. If I live. It’s up to me.
All this business about medically induced comas is just doctor talk. It’s not up to the doctors.
It’s not up to the absentee angels. It’s not even up to god who, if He exists, is nowhere around right now. It’s up to me.”
I have to say this book was not what I expected it to be….
One completely normal, happy day, Mia’s world is shattered when a truck hits the car she was in killing her family and putting her in a coma. The book follows the course of one full day while she is in the hospital having an out of body experience, seeing herself, seeing the aftermath of the accident and the effect it has on the lives around her but unable to directly do anything. The story is almost told in reverse with snippets of memories from her life adding weight to every scene in the present.
I know a lot of people told me that this book was a real tear-jerker but for some reason, I didn’t connect very intensely to the characters in that way. I teared up twice but never actually cried. The story was good, and kept me turning the pages, but I still never fully connected. Maybe it was because the accident happened so early in the book that I didn’t feel a strong enough connection with the characters to be moved to tears, it kinda of just felt like a tragic situation where I was sad it happened, but didn’t know enough about the people involved to feel shattered by it.
If you are a musician or a big fan of music, you will probably connect a lot more to this book. Music is a huge part of Mia, Adam (her boyfriend), and her parent’s lives and plays a big part in their world.
I think honestly, by the end of the book, the characters that I felt closest to were Mia’s parents. I loved them!! They were just so awesome! I actually would love to read their love story despite the tragic ending.
I was also under the impression that this was a romance, but it’s not one exactly. Its more of a YA story with some romance but without it being the focus of the book.
I heard somewhere that it was going to be made into a movie. I do think it would make a beautiful movie!! In fact, in many ways, it almost felt like I was reading a movie if that makes any sense lol.
I’m going to read the sequel next and see how it goes… stay tuned 🙂

10++ bright shining stars
This is the most intense and epic love story EVER told!!
Its exquisitely written, achingly heart wrenching, deeply heart warming and utterly and completely beautiful, unforgettable and incomparable in every way!!!
The author has a truly uncanny gift for really making you FEEL everything that her characters are going through. I FELT Tania and Alexander fall in love, I FELT their longing, I FELT their desire, FELT their heartache,FELT their joy, FELT their hunger, FELT their pain, FELT their happiness, FELT their loss, FELT their desperation, but more than anything FELT their LOVE .
Love that was all consuming, world-shattering, achingly deep, and EPIC !!!
Honestly, I was an absolute wreck throughout my reading of it. I literally stayed up reading till the sun came up and got up 4 hours later to finish it. Throughout the entire book, I felt as though I was being constantly injected with little bouts of adrenaline. It kept me riveted the entire time. This book ripped my heart out and put it back together over and over and over again. I cried a few times throughout the book… and then there was a part about 3/4 of the way though where I literally sobbed for about 12-15 straight pages. And then I held out until the second last page and the waterworks started again. You want SO BADLY for things to work out for them!
The story basically follows Tatiana, a 17 year old Russian girl from Lenningrad, who on the day that WW2 started in their area, meets Alexander, a 22 year old soldier in the Red Army with a secret past that could be very dangerous for him and anyone around him if it got out. Tania’s sister has recently also found a soldier who she is absolutely smitten with and, of course, Tania then finds out that Alexander is indeed that soldier that Dasha has fallen for. Tatiana’s is the ultimate selfless giver – she puts everyone else before her no matter the personal costs and even though she and Alexander are clearly crazy for each other, she cannot bear the thought of breaking her sister’s heart and begs him to pretend to stay with her sister. This leads to a lot of tension, obviously, and many stolen glances, and gestures, looks, fleeting touches, private names for each other and secret meetings. Over the months they fall deeper and deeper in secret love. But eventually the war comes right to Lenningrad and they are forced to all fight for survival. When Tatiana and Alexander eventually get married, they have a beautiful month long hot hot hot 70+ page honeymoon (this IS a romance story after all despite the tragic setting) … I won’t say more but the ending leaves you hanging and desperate for the next book.
This is book 1 of a trilogy. I have it on good authority that the last one ends with a HEA but its a long and bumpy road until then. It’s not your classic romance where everything just “works out”, it’s a heart wrenching journey of finding love and having the faith to hold on to it no matter what.
Alexander… *sigh* how to describe him. He is one of those male character that just sears themself into your mind. The way he LOVES Tania and the way she LOVES him is just so POWERFUL and BEAUTIFUL!! I really can’t do it justice with my own words. They sacrifice SO much, EVERYTHING for each other. I loved how Tatiana grew from a quiet young girl to a very strong woman throughout the book.I just want to pluck the two of them out of this story, put them on a desert island with everything they could every want to live out their lives in perfect happiness. They literally have all possible odds stacked against them and yet still the push through. This is truly a story about survival…
… About how love can give you the will and the courage to survive anything.
The book is long. My print copy was 810 pages but I promise you, it does not feel long at all. I read every single word (often as slowly as I could). I didn’t skim a single syllable. The author’s writing style is beautiful and flows very smoothly. The story never dragged for me.
If you want an EPIC love story with wonderful characters and heart achingly beautiful writing, this is the book for you.
***EDIT + QUICK NOTE REGARDING THE “HISTORICAL” ASPECT OF THESE BOOKS:
A question I get asked A LOT is: “How historical are these book?” so I’m going to answer that here: NOT AT ALL!!! Ok, well maybe a tiny bit considering it takes place during WW2, but the point is that it doesn’t FEEL like a historical book at all. I personally am not a fan of historical romances mainly because I don’t like the language. In this book, the characters speak in MODERN language. They sound pretty much like you or I would. Also, the book does NOT go into any lengthy detail on historical events. This is first and formost a LOVE STORY. The focus is on the characters, NOT the events. The only events that are highlighted are the ones that DIRECTLY affect the main couple. The rest of the war, etc is pretty much glossed right over. You do learn some facts because obviously they live through the war, but its the background. The story follows ALEXANDER and TATIANA, their life and their love. Trust me, you will NOT regret reading it! 😀
Bottom line: THE BRONZE HORSEMAN IS THE BEST, MOST INTENSE, MOST INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL AND HEART WRENCHING YET HEART WARMING LOVE STORY EVER TOLD.
A MUST READ!!! Trust me,. You’ll never forget this story.
10 ++ stars and a place high on my favorites shelf.
I’m going straight ahead into book 2, appropriately titled: Tatiana and Alexander 🙂
Favourite quotes:
“I love you breathlessly, my amazing man.”
“Ask yourself these three questions, Tatiana Metanova, and yiu will know who you are. Ask: what do you believe in? What do you hope for? But most important – ask: what do you love?
… I know who I am, she thought, taking his hand and turning to the altar. I am Tatiana. And I believe in, and hope for, and love Alexander for life.”“Tatiana: I found my true love on Ulita Saltykov-Schedrin, while I sat on a bench eating ice cream.
Alexander: You didn’t find me. You weren’t even looking for me. I found you.
Long pause.
Tatiana: Alexander, we’re you …. looking for me ?
Alexander: All my life.”“Tatiana: “Why did we spend two days fighting when we could have been doing this?”
Alexander: “That wasn’t fighting, Tatiana. That was foreplay.”“Alexander tilted his head and kissed her deeply on the lips. He let go of her hands, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing herself against him. They kissed as if in a fever… they kissed as if the breath were leaving their bodies.”
“There are some battles, no matter how much you don’t want to fight them, that you just have to fight. That are worth giving your life for.”
“Love is,” she repeated slowly, looking only at Dasha, “when he is hungry and you feed him. Love is knowing when he is hungry”

10++ big beautiful stars and then some
WOW!!!!
This second installment of The Bronze Horseman trilogy was BEYOND BEAUTIFUL!!!!! This is truly the most EPIC LOVE story EVER told bar none. I am writing this review through the tears left over from reading this book.
This book was the PERFECT sequel to The Bronze Horseman. In many ways, it not so much followed it as it did complete it. While things are still very open for book 3, I felt like this book was the second half of TBH. It was utterly BREATHTAKING!!!!!!
*** If you want to go in completely blind, it might be best not to read this review ***
When we left Tatiana and Alexander in TBH, Alexander had arranged for a pregnant Tatiana to get passage to America by having her think he was dead (he was sure they were going to execute him) but as fate would have it, he wasn’t and was made to serve in the penal battalions at the front of the war. Tatiana meanwhile in America is forced to try and live on with their infant son believing that he is dead.
I don’t have words to describe and BEAUTIFULLY and SEAMLESSLY the author wove together Alexander’s story with Tatiana’s as well as flashbacks and memories. We learn a lot about Alexander in this book. While the books are not written in first person, a lot of what we saw in The Bronze Horseman was through Tatiana’s eyes and in this book, we are taken back to events seen in TBH and also some events that we didn’t see (that happened in between) and are shown them through Alexander’s eyes. It explains so much leaving no question unanswered…. We also see Alexander’s childhood through intermingled flashbacks that help the reader understand how he became the man he is.
The HEARTACHE and LONGING in this book almost killed me. I was openly crying or sobbing every 10 pages or so. You’ll just be reading normally and your emotional state will be relatively stable (well, still full of aching for them missing each other but bearably so) in a ‘current’ scene but then a memory will be inserted and just throw you right over the emotional edge.
The happy memories of each other are inserted throughout the entire book at times when Tatiana and Alexander are despairing beyond all hope, and the memories of each other serve as a means to get them through. To get up one more time. To put one foot in front of the other. Not to give up…. In this same way, they help the reader get through their separation by constantly giving hope.
And their reunion!!!!! Wow. Wow. Wow.
Alexander and Tatiana are both SUCH strong characters – some of the strongest I’ve ever read about.
I don’t think I have ever sobbed through a book so much – but in a completely good way. This is such a story of survival and love. The author’s ability to make you FEEL every single thing that Tatiana and Alexander are going through is just incredible.
No piece of music, book, story, movie, show, anything has EVER made meFEEL as strongly as this book did.
If I were going to be stuck on a desert island for the rest of my life and could only bring one series of books, it would be these.
The LOVE that Tatiana and Alexander share is beyond words. You just have to experience it for yourself. I don’t think anyone but the author can do it justice.
Again, this book is long, not as long as the first one though but my print copy is 559 pages. But it did not drag even once. I read every. single. word. every syllable even as slowly as I could. I didn’t want it to end…. And there is absolutely zero fluff. Absolutely everything mentioned is a vital part of the story.
And as with the first one, the writing is also broken up really interestingly. It is in chapters, but within those chapters are little sections, each one is a writing work of art. I really don’t know how to explain it, but each one is not just telling you what is happening, but it has a greater point … Its achingly beautifully poetic… This writing style becomes more and more poignant as the series goes on because as you know more and more about the characters, the author is able to make the sections more and more emotional until every single one of your heart strings is raw.
The ending is perfect and this being the romance love story that it is, everything does work out in the end, which believe me is what will keep you going throughout it.
I’m starting book 3 right away which follows Alexander and Tatiana in their new life in America with their son as they face life after the war together.
These are by FAR my FAVORITE books ever. There is nothing else in their league.. This story is one that i will reread over and over again and will stay with me forever.
And tell me that’s not the most beautiful book cover ???? ![]()
Favourite quotes:
“We walk alone through this world, but if we’re lucky, we have a moment of belonging to something, to someone, that sustains us through a lifetime of loneliness.”
“Will you remember that? Anywhere you are, if you can look up and find Perseus in the sky, find that smile, and hear the galactic wind whisper your name, you’ll know that it’s me, calling for you… calling you back to Lazarevo. ” ~Alexander
“There is one moment, a moment in eternity. Before we find out the truth about one another. That simple moment is the one that propels us through life – what we felt at the very edge of our future, standing over the abyss, before we knew for sure we loved. Before we knew for sure we loved forever. … Before all that, you and I walked through The Summer Garden, and once in a while my bare arm touched your arm, and once in a while you spoke and that gave me an excuse to look up into your face, into your laughing eyes, to catch a glimpse of your mouth and I, who had never been touched, tried to imagine what it might be like to have your mouth touch me. Falling in love with you in The Summer Garden in the white nights of Leningrad is the moment that propels me though life.”
“If I can live through this, he thought, I can live through anything. If I can live through this, I WILL live through anything.”
