Here’s what you need to know about this series:
- It is a MUST read for any fans of Paranormal Romance.
- It is HOT (and I mean smokin’, fan-yourself H O T).
- The vamps are A.L.P.H.A. Possessive, protective, absolutely badass fighters who are also intensely tender and swoon-worthy lovers).
- The world building is fantastic and builds with each book.
- Each book focuses on one main couple with the rest of the Brotherhood (and their mates) as side characters.
- Each book has a completely resolved, happy, swoony ending for the main couple, but usually leaves bigger plotlines to carry over to the next book.
- They should be read in order, each one builds on the next.
- This books are ADDICTIVE! I dare you to read just one!!
- So yeah… highly, highly recommended!

serena says
Do you have to read them all or will it makes sense to read the first one for example and then The King because it is the same characters?
Aestas says
You absolutely have to read them in order! It’s all the same characters for the whole series and since they all live together in their big fortress, they are each always supporting characters in every book even though each book focuses on one couple. So definitely in order 🙂
Breanna says
Would you happen to know of a blog or a site that I could use to kind of get basically what each of the last five books is about. I have read this entire series and actually have everyone up until the thief in hardcover and I’ve been trying to do a reread but you know life and I would just really like to get kind of caught up before the Savior gets here
Aestas says
Sorry no I don’t
Thresa Jenkins says
Have you tried to google the synopsis of each book? I just did that for The Savior and The Chosen. Goodreads gives a synopsis of books.
PJ says
The order is good except for Blood Kiss and The Beast should be switched around. BLOOD kiss references the battle in The Beast.
Aestas says
I post them in release order so as not to confuse anyone.
Blood Kiss released December 1, 2015
The Beast released April 5, 2016
So the order I’ve listed them in is as per how the author wanted them read 🙂
Sam says
Or rather, how the publishing company wanted them released……? Maybe?
Aestas says
More likely how they were written. I always list books in release order. That is the only truly non-subjective way to list them.
Divya Shinde says
Hi, can u help me with these books as m not able to get it, Father mine , The chosen , the spin off books n The theif. Rest m done reading and must say author has done awesome writing work with story n characters. love them to infinite. 😍 Please do let me know
Genny says
Try your local library. Being disabled and legally blind, I use the online library. I am also in a network of friends who have online libraries and we help each other find books that we are reading.
Jacqueline Smith says
I am a little OCD and have to go in sequence. I just finished Lover Mine and getting ready to start Lover Unleased. I have enjoyed reading every last one of them so far. My sister turned me on to them.
Sarah O'Connor says
I didn’t get to read them.all in order but it wasn’t a problem at all, for exactly the reason that each book builds on the others and most characters are in all the books.
Carmen Davalos says
You have to readthem all
Susie Reads says
As any avid reader knows, when you come to the end of a great book, you’ll enter a dark mourning period. You won’t know the pleasure of spending time with your “loved ones” anymore, you’ll miss the hell out of them. Well, this series will prolong the love-fest & give you endless hours of joyous alone time with your favorites. Not to mention, once you read one, you’re really gonna want ’em all!
Cindi says
I’m hooked ! Waiting for Dearest Ivie and The Thief to come out in paper back.
Tina says
Read them in order.
rebecca lutz says
no no u want to read them in order believe me it helps
Kathleena Hanley says
do you read the legacy series first or the black dagger brotherhood
KT says
See the list above – the Legacy books start coming in after the first 12 BDB books plus a novella.
Tiffany B. Fain says
Read them all, If you read Dark Lover but then skip ten books to read The King you will be missing major character changes and introductions that happen within the ten books you skipped. Some of the characters that play a major role in The King are not even mentioned in Dark Lover because they have not been incorporated into the Brotherhood’s group. Some relationships, friendships, and enemies will have started, ended, been introduced or vanquished and you will have no idea what the characters are referring to when they discuss them. Read them all in order. It is not hard, you will get roped in and become enchanted with their world and the stories they tell. If you have problems reading a book for long periods of time get the Audio book version on cd or an electronic device. They are unabridged and the reader is fantastic! I rented every one of them from my library to listen to while at work and now I’m slowly purchasing each one so I can listen to them whenever I want.
christine says
now, now how did you get to listen to Father Mine on auto???? I have been trying everything including writing the company to get Father Mine on auto or cd??????? HELP PLEASE
Anne Major says
You definitely need to read them in order abe once you have read the first one you won’t be able to stop reading them. I’ve read them all and can’t wait for the next one!
Cissy says
The other reason to read them in order is character development. Each of the first books is focused on one of the main characters and their pasts, personality and hopes for the future. As you get later into the series, that history and character development makes the books much more alive. Each book has a story line that for the most part finds an ending within that book. But there are many other story lines intertwined within that main story that might be confusing if you don’t read them in order.
Rebecca says
All the things you listed as “you need to know about this series” sound exactly like the New Species series by Laurann Dohner, even down to the name of some of the men. Maybe Laurann Dohner was “inspired” by this. But I still loved New Species, so I should probably give this a try.
Iris says
Dark Lover was published in 2005. It’s a great series, you will love it!
Beric says
I read both. I definitely prefer the BDB series! My mother loves Laurann Dohner, and has read both as well. She likes the simplicity of the New Species but I believe JR Ward has a more in depth world and such great character development. Both have a similar outline and are great series. I highly recommend!
Petula Winmill says
I love this series. I’m not quite up to date yet. My last one was Lover Reborn. At the moment I’m reading Rapture also by J.R.WARD.
Choi says
Love the casting pictures. It’s pretty close to how I picture the characters too. My favorite is Rhage and Wrath.
Kathy says
The casting for Butch is David Boreanaz. Who is no stranger to paranormal fiction. He also has played angel in the series Angel, also the FBI Agent in the still running series Bones. I LOVE this man
leea r. says
yes I read just one because it look cool but then I found out it was a series and I got to the library asap and got all of them that I could my favorite characters are rage and visioucs. and as a third i would pick john Mathew.
Ana says
I thought I had found my best reading on the Lover at Least, but The King is amazing ! I just love the writing of JR Ward!! Thank God JR has lots of characters to write about. I’m so attached to these people I’m not sure if I can handle loosing them at all. I need this series to go forever! 🙂
Manuela says
I read them all. I am well known for jumping into a series into the middle (usually by accident) but in this case it was recommended and I took advantage of my local library and read them in chronological order. Since every book is building on what happened in the previous one, it is a must to read it that way. As well as the writing style has changed as side stories either show previous characters interchange with the main characters or freshly introduced characters building up to support the main ones or have their own story being told (maybe even a push towards their own book). By any chance get them books and read them, they are quite cool, even if not all the books were my favourites.
Melissa says
LOVE your casting choices. I would love to see your Qhuinn & Blay! I would also love to see your ladies of the BDB casting, especially Xhex!
kari says
I have read every book. I read the new book in like 3 days and have to wait all year for the next. I hate that i have to wait so long but it is always so very worth it. I also love the fallen series wich is a branch off of this one but i havent really kept up with it like i do this series. I have recomemded it to many friends and anyone i lend the first book to gets hooked and ends up reading my whole collection. I cant wait to read shadows!!!!!
Lyn says
Looking to get the remaining books to the series “The Black Dagger Brotherhood”. I have books 1-11 and have found that I am missing 6.5 “Father Mine” and books 12-14, is this all that is available at this time? Love this series.
Aestas says
Yes, all the books are linked above in the post 🙂
Mary says
Hi. Thanks for this list! I have to pick up at 12. Oh, and thanks for the visuals! Nice…reaaallllllyyyyy nice.
Mary
Rita Gillenwater says
I love the BDB. Can’t wait for the next book. Is there going to be one just about iAm? I just got the book “Shadows”. Loving this, always looking to find the new one to be out. Love reading and BDB is my favorite. Thank you so much. Can’t wait for the newest version.
Sherry says
iAm and Trez are both featured in The Shadows. It was one of my favorites!
Shelly W says
Thank you for this review. Have been thinking about reading this series and know I know that I need to.
carole says
I have read 4 of these books so far and I find them exciting , enthralling , and very erotic ,they are some of the best reads I have ever had I want to get the whole series now but finding it hard to source them at a reasonable price for my pocket , but I will keep searching ……
Jamee says
Is this ever going to become a movie? There are pictures of who is who but no word on a movie. If so when is it going to be coming theater near me?
Aestas says
Those are just personal casting images. Not from a movie or show. Just for fun!
nata says
I can’t seem to find a link to your casting choices and I would love to see them!
Sherry Hofer says
I am majorly hooked on this series. About 6 years ago I was browsing in a half price bookstore. A lady asked if I had read these books. She just raved about them so I bought a couple. And that was the start of my addiction. And you definitely need to read them in order. My only complaint is she doesn’t write them fast enough. I go into withdrawal.
Tamilyn says
Ok,,,, I need something else to read I LOVE LA BANKS.
merie says
Just so you know LA Banks passed away. I also loved her books. It took me two years of checking before I found out the sad news
Kristine says
I listen to them in the car, the reader is really good! I am impressed by the emotions I feel as I drive! im totally engaged. Love every character!!!
Anné says
This series is the best I’ve ever read!!!
Will “The Beast” be the last book in this series??
I sincerely hope not
Carol says
I absolutely recommend this series – the BDB are the most fascinating and intense group of characters and I can’t get enough. I am in the process of re-reading the series. Wrath and Zsadist are my favorites.
Kendel Bryant says
Love the BDB series!! I am starting the Fallen Angel books at the moment.
Kylie says
Are there any series/movies on these books?
Aestas says
No, sorry!
Peridot says
I am re-reading this series and falling in love all over again with my boys. Just finished Lover Awakened- gosh, the twins, specially Zsadist, keep breaking my heart. I love Vishous and can’t wait to get to his book. Wrath OWNS a corner in my heart. Highly recommend it! I hope J.R. keeps writing for a long, long time.
Sandra says
Okay so I read all 13 books in 2 weeks and I must say I hope it doesn’ t end. But I have to ask is there another book after the beast? Please say yes!
Aestas says
Yes, the series is not over 🙂
Mindy says
The next book is called The Chosen- Layla and Xcor’s book
Jem says
I am really hooked on this series. Does anyone have reading suggestions for between times? Note I have seen some suggest lists already I did not like because peeps focus only on vamp novels or gorgeous grumpy men. I am looking for paranormal — well written —.
On that note my suggestions go as: (1) The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher starting with “Storm Front,” (2) Doctrine of Labyrinths by Sarah Monette starting with “Mélusine,” (3) The Sharing Knife by Lois McMaster Bujold starting with “Beguilement,” (4) Dark-Hunter by Sherrilyn Kenyon starting with “Night Pleasures,” (5) Nightrunner by Lynn Flewelling starting with “Luck in the Shadows,” (6) Meredith Gentry by Laurell K. Hamilton starting with “A Kiss of Shadows,” and (7) Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore starting with “Homeland” (then “Exile,” then “Sojourn;” part of Forgotten Realms saga).
Mooshu says
R.A. Salvotre is amazing. I love every story about Drizt. But if you want romance….that’s not the way to go. I
recently found a series of “paranormal” romances that made me laugh my ass off!!! Look for Bunny and the Bear. Trust me 🙂
Jem Fay Crystal says
But gawd I hate the polysemy of ROMANCE.
If you stick all the way through the Dark Elf Series, Drizzt does have relations with… well spoilers I wont say but you know. And you are right that does not make the series a romance because there isn’t a luridly described sex scene. Romance is the polite hidden way to publicly say “sex” when talking about book content. But it makes me so angry because the reality of the word romance is so much more than skin rub.
Second beef about ROMANCE is it’s repetitious meet, find we are attracted, bad stuff come between us, overcome bad stuff, make-up sex. Third beef is the same exact sex scene over and over and over. You know not everyone on the planet gets off on having their tits touched! Seriously.
So am I looking for a romance? Not really. Just good writing with pretty men and sex. Seeing the view first person through a/the male’s eyes a very big plus.
Thx for you lead on Bunny and Bear. And I’m not balling you out with my soap box on romance just want to rant for no good reason. Ty again.
Ana says
I love the BDB and have read them all. When are new ones coming out? I’ve had withdrawals and have been reading other series to keep myself busy waiting on the new book. Please hurry!
Mish says
What book will have Assail and Sola’sstory continued
Aestas says
Reading order just updated!!! New book added 😀
Latifa Morrisette says
I’m so excited for the two new books coming!! I love this series!!
Jan Richard says
I’ve been waiting for a book explaining the relationship of Xcor & Layla, this makes me very very happy.
Thank you for sharing!
Sandy says
Each time a new BDB book comes out I start from the beginning. So I have read Dark Lover 14 times. I can’t say enough about how these books move me. They are vampires that don’t kill humans. They love fiercely and live with honor and abandon. They protect their family and are bonded to the brothers for life. Of all the books I love these are my very favorites. I thank the day I accidentally found them. J R Ward is one of the better writers
Tammy V says
I love this series and hope to get my daughter who is older now into them so I can do a reread with her.
Dana says
Bloody Hell we are finally going to get Xcor and Layla!!!
Jessica Call says
Omg I LOVE this series! It’s one of my favorite! I own them all except the newest ones. I’m ordering them soon. One of the best paranormal romance authors I’ve ever read!! If you haven’t experienced these books omg do it, do it now!!
Susan says
I never thought when I came across Dark Lover that I would get hooked on paranormal romance books. (Nobody does it better than Wrath) JR Ward is phenomenal. I have now read all of the books up to Blood Kiss which I am half way through. I purchased The Beast and will pre-order Blood Vow and now The Chosen. Again, phenomenal!
ndiy says
i AM IN LOVE WITH THE BROTHERS. ESPECIALLY BUTCH & RHAGE!!! DEFO RHAGE. BDB FTW! <3
L. Leon says
When I started these series the person that recommended it said that also the Fallen Angels series go in between the BDB. I read up until Possesion and we do get a few glimpses of the Brothers and it happens in the same…fictional world? LOL. While the Brothers are fighting the Baby powder albino freaks and Xcore bandits, Fallen Angels are fighting the devil for the world. I did had a link but that was 2 years ago. Do you know if it makes a difference?
Elizabeth says
I LOVE THE WHOLE BDB SERIES!!!it should be made into a movie. But i also hope they will be more series to come maybe including Assail and Sola. I’m on the Blood Kiss book. Can’t wait to read the next book.
rian says
love this series, currently reading it
Jane says
Love this series. Currently waiting (not so patiently) for Lover Reborn to come available at the library.
I read them out of order. It was just the way I was able to get them and while I found that I missed some things, waiting was not optional. So much love for this series.
I’m now caught up and will read the rest in order… but man…having to go back and forth was interesting.
Sally says
Love this series an can’t wait for this one I am like the others an read them many times
SARAH says
GOD, Cant wait for The thief by JR.Ward
Aestas says
😀
Melissa Henry says
Is this the order you recommend reading the legacy books in between the BDB books or is this just the order the books were released?
Aestas says
It’s the order they were released in but the timelines I believe match up. I haven’t read the Legacy books, but they crossover with the BDB characters so if you read them alone, you’d likely get some form of BDB-related spoilers.
Tiffany says
Read the Legacy Books in the order the books come out. They expand the world of BDB and some things that happen in Legacy lead into the next books in BDB. Plus, They are amazing! When you have read the whole BDB series and become close to all the brothers and their mates, the warriors that fight with them and fallen in love with them. You feel a kinship with them. Reading Legacy books looks at our Brothers through the eyes of a stranger and it can be hysterical. In Blood Kiss, I was holding my sides laughing so hard at Paradise’s reaction to something Lassiter did because it was something that would not have surprised me knowing him, but for her it was outrageous!
Sherry says
I’m anxiously awaiting the new book with Assail and Sola, but I’m dying to find out when the new one with Vicious and Jane is coming out! The Chosen has left me on the edge of my seat with those two!
yvonne says
Rereading the whole series! Reading The Beast right now…LOVE this series! I have fallen in love all over again! Still have a few to go, thank goodness! I hate it when I get to the end and have to wait again! lol
Gale McCoy says
When are you going to record Blood Fury for Audible? And are they making any of this into a movie or Netflix original series? Hint Hint
Denise says
Without a doubt all these books deserve to be read! They are absolutely exciting to read! I have the entire series and have read them at least 3 times and am doing so again!!! They’re just like potato chips…can’t eat just one!!!
Christy says
I’m SO IN LOVE WITH THESE BOOKS! LOL!! Would
I absolutely have to read Blood kiss since it is a spinoff? Or can I go straight to the Beast? And the series still make sense?
Aestas says
I believe the spinoff are optional (I haven’t read them myself) as they’re not directly part of the series, but I know that the Brothers ARE in them.
Barbie M says
I bought The Chosen when it came out but has put off reading it because I want to read them in order. I just finished The king. Growing up all I read was Steven King, until one day I saw a really cool cover, bought it and after the second chapter was a very explicit steamy sex scene. I have been hooked on paranormal romance since. I have literally read and owned all Christine Feehan series, yes ALL 5 series, especially the Carpathians and the Ghost walkers. I am up to date on Sherrlyn Kenyon’s the League Nation, and now working on Miss Ward BDB. I love it! Especially when I can relate to most of the characters. Keep up the great work and never stop.
Esha Hurry says
hello. I want to have the complete series of the books. How can I buy all of them at one go??
Aestas says
Here’s the link to purchase all 14 BDB eBooks at once: http://amzn.to/2xuNVMp
(near the top of that link there should be an orange button to buy all the books at once)
Or if you prefer paperbacks, go here: http://amzn.to/2w5bb3a
Esha Hurry says
thank you 😉
Liz says
I am in love!!!! I do have a question. Do we need to read the spin offs or can you get away without reading them? I will still read them I just want some sort of clarification. Please and Thank you !
Aestas says
I don’t think they’re necessary. But they contain recurring characters.
merie says
I am on my second reading of TheChosen. Very interesting. I love all your characters but Im drawn to Assail. I know he is not a Very importent character But to me he is. He needs his love to be there and help him through thas awful withdrawl. I thank you for sliping him in most of the books. V is in trouble, hope you can find a way to straighten him out. I really hope you have more of this wonderful series still to tell. Your writing is wonderful. Thank you for bringing us such joy.
Meg says
Ok…i LOVE these books!! My question is, should I read the legacy books in between the brotherhood books where they were released? Or will that screw up the series?
lovorn newman says
love this series. can’t wait for assail to get his book.i hope mhurder comes back.and son meets the brothers.
Hill says
After ready The Shadows I should read Blood Kiss before reading The Beast? I read a couple of reviews of people saying they read Blood Kiss before The Beast and it ruined The Beast for them.
Kay says
Losing my mind March and April can’t get here soon enough!
Colleen says
I discovered the series by an accident I was looking for a stand alone after reading what was then the most recent ‘Others of Edenton’ book and have been reading them ever since. I have all of them on my NOOK and when I have issues that require a hard reset(unable to get proper software updates) I will spend as much time as necessary to reload these books first. I can’t tell you how many times one of the brothers made me, laugh, cry, and *gasp* even want to throw the NOOK across the room. LOL but every time I do a reread I just can’t put it down.
Laura says
You have also “The story of Son”. I love it! 🙂
Can’t wait for “The Thief” <3
Judi says
I’ve been reading this series for years. I’m actually going thru them all again as I found I had forgotten some of the little things ie) how Fritz ended up working for the brotherhood and how some of the earlier pairs came together as couples. Read them in order and enjoy the ride.
Shelly Kelly says
Why can’t I get Father Mine in any audio version? I listened to it before, but lost your entire series. I am listening to them again. But Fathet Mine is missing from Audible and Kindle. It’s so important in the series.
Lisa Kneisley says
Is it best to read the legacy books in with the main BDB books? I just finished the Shadows (ripped my heart out btw) and I have all the books. Just dont know weather to reel blood kiss next or beast?
Mary Hlav says
O.M.G. I have been searching for a gripping series to read and BDB has completely enthralled me. After reading all the comments I started with Dark Lover and am now at Blood Fury. I would love to have these made into a movie(s), there are scenes that are just sooooo vivid, like Qhuinn flying the plane? I’m not looking forward to finishing the series, I guess that means I’ll have to start all over again!
John says
I read them all. Waiting for #18. I wish the author would reconsider and put the series on the screen. There is such a massive following for all of the series.
Kat says
It’s almost scary. I found this series only a month ago and am already on Blood Kiss. 14 books in and I’m obsessed. Who needs sleep anyways. I feel as though I want to be in this world. I want to be the next miracle that stumbles into the world of the Brotherhood.
Gail Benjamin says
BDB is fabulous. But almost as good is Discovery of Witches series by Deborah Harkness ( intelligent and well written) and Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah Maas, also very well written with a fabulously imaginative world. Happy reading.
Mercedes says
I just finished reading Lover Enshrined and at the end of it they introduce a fallen angel named Lassiter and I was really confused who the hell he was and how he already knew the Black Dagger Brotherhood after reading reviews I noticed that other people were not confused by this and so I wanted to see where in the list you’re supposed to add the Fallen Angels books I have looked online and I cannot find it
Aestas says
No you don’t have to read those books unless you want to — they’re not directly part of this series. Lassiter becomes a strong character in the BDB world though
PJ says
The order of the books listed is good except Blood Kiss and The Beast. Blood Kiss references the battle in The Beast, and in The Beast there is a reference to the upcoming start if the new training class. As for the questions of NOT reading them all in this order… Let me just say that if you don’t then you will be a little lost if you skip them. They are all intertwined with each other.
Amelia says
Can I just say I love this series so much! I now have all the books on my kindle and plan on buying the guide soon. And I have also preordered the two new books!
Sherry says
Ruhn and Saxton’s story. I am missing something. They are introduced in Blood Vow and in Blood Fury they are together with a history. Which book did this happen?
Ella says
They get together in Blood Fury. It’s their book.
Julie Salitros says
Just finished the Thief and I NEED the next book now!! I don’t want to wait! I am absolutely addicted and in love with this series!! It is hands down my favorite.
Mary-Anne says
I absolutely love this book series. i am nearly finished reading the Shadows. Can anyone tell me if i should read the beast next or blood kiss?
Christopher Walsh says
Along with Father Mine, you could also say “or The Insider’s Guide to the Black Dagger Brotherhood” which contains Father Mine in print along with a ton of other material including the ultra hot short story “The Letter Opener” (Beth & Wrath)
Also, you need to add into your list the e-book Son of Son, also set in the BDB world.
Brittany says
There’s also another novella called The Story of Son by J. R. Ward that doesn’t include any of the major characters but is still set in the BDB world. It was originally published in a collection titled Dead After Dark with several other authors/stories in 2008.
Mary Ann says
I’m loving your website and just subscribed to your newsletter. I discovered J. R. Ward and the Black Dagger Brotherhood series a few years ago when I ordered a box set of the first six books. I had never heard of this author but I love paranormal romance so I was looking forward to reading these books. Man, did I ever fall in love. As yet, I haven’t read all the books in this series but I’m working on it. Thanks for this awesome website!!
Mary-Anne says
The list needs an update as i saw on a website 2 new books r coming out. The Sinner BDB (2020) and Blood Truth (legacey 2019)?
Allison says
The most recent list of coming books, direct from JR Ward herself, has Blood Truth (Boone’s book in the Legacy series) August 2019. After that, it is:
Where Winter Finds Us (Trez/Selena part 2) Christmas 2019
The Sinner (Syn/Jo Early) April 2020
The Jackal (Legacy book 5, featuring Rhage’s half-brother Jackal) August 2020.
Darlene Rodeback says
I have slowly over the last 5 or 6 years been reading these books . I’m not an avid reader, that’s why I’m slow. I have recently connected with audio books, and are going through them faster now. I’m at the end and happily adding the new books. This series has been so exciting for me, I think they’re great and the stories should continue to come. I love this series and would recommend it to anybody!
Robin Hawks says
My daughter turned me on to the Black Dagger Brotherhood a few years back. I started them in August and by Halloween I was all caught up. These books are fantastic and I enjoy each and every one of them. As a matter of fact I live in New York and travel to the Lake George area and Plattsburg alot. So in my mind I can just imagine a brother walking down the road any time. I just finished The Savior and I am now waiting for the next book Blood Truth that will be released in August. If anyone needs to find past books try Amazon you should be able to get them there.

I feel the reading order is incorrect between Blood Kiss and The Beast. The Beast should come before Blood Kiss. In The Beast, the raid on Brownswick School happens. In addition, multiple references are made to the training center being empty but that students will soon be coming. In Blood Kiss, Butch makes references to a successful raid on the Brownswick School which, in the current reading order, hasn’t happened yet.

I list everything in release order so that they’re read in the order they were released in.
Blood Kiss: December 1, 2015
The Beast: April 5, 2016

Does anyone know if they’re making a movie/series on these books? They are the best books I’ve ever read in my life. I’m not even that much of a book fan but when I started reading I couldn’t stop. I fell in love with these books!!!
Aestas says
I don’t think so but I definitely agree they’d be a fantastic show! I would vote for show over movie to prolong the fun 😀
Smokey says
I can’t see them being able to even make a movie/tv show about this series… The sex scenes aside.. almost every make is HUGELY muscled so I can’t see it ever happening tbh. Everything about this series would be changed no doubt.

Just finished the audiobook of Blood Truth. It is AMAZING! I love this series so much that I haven’t even though to buy any different books. I’ll just keep relistening to all of them over and over until the next one comes out lol ❤
Nica says
I must have missed one of the books because I don’t know which one Lassiter shows up in. Can you tell me please. I love the series, I’m listening to them since my eyes have gone AWOL. Thanks

I don’t remember for sure which one he’s introduced with, but I think it was early — maybe book 3 or 4?
Lila says
He is introduced on Book 6 (Lover Enshrined) around chapter 49. When he brings Tohr back
Aestas says
Was he around at all in book 4? For some reason I have this memory of a scene where they’re all in the house together and he is hanging out at the back of the room and I thought it was Butch’s maybe….? I read them quite a while back so my memory is a little blurred.

First I want to say thank you for this list because I was putting some of my ebooks in the proper order on my tablet and this really helped. So thank you so much!
Second I just want to point out that Where Winter Finds You is not about Trez and Selena, it’s about Trez and Therese. I know that the summery kind of hints at a reincarnation but still the couple would be Trez & Therese.

Is the legacy series spinoff as good as the Black dagger brotherhood? I’m debating whether or not to read it and don’t want to be let down.
Aestas says
It’s part of the world but not focused on the main BDB characters.
Ellie Jay says
I got them through the library, since I’ve got most of the collection and was hesitant to add even more. They’re pretty good & you get small glimpses of the main characters throughout.
Martha Olivarez says
I thought about skipping them. I’m glad I didn’t. It adds to the story and there is information revealed to provide continuity in the other series. You will miss information if you skip them and be left wondering “when did that happen”?
Jenny says
Is there a book somewhere specifically about Lassiter? I know he has a story I just can’t find it!
Max says
I don’t think there is one specifically about Lassiter… I may be wrong though…

[SPOILER ALERT]
Is the author ever going to follow up with the Darius/John Matthew thread. Darius is Beth’s father who-in the very first book-enlisted Wrath to get her through her transition, died, but then made a pact with the Scribe Virgin to come back but when he did he wouldn’t remember anything about his prior life. Fast forward to when Mary helps John Matthew on the suicide hotline, who is an “orphan” who does not know he is a vampire on the verge of his transition. It is alluded to that he is really the “reincarnated” Darius, but then the storyline dies and is never revisited. I have always wondered and hoped that she would pick the storyline up at some point and that it would ultimately come to light that John Matthew is in fact Darius and that there would be a book focused on this “reveal”. Not sure if she forgot about that seed planted in the early books, or is just waiting to follow up on it. It would make an amazing plot line and I have literally waiting for years for to pick it back up and let us know where it ends.
Max says
So the Jackal is just one of the spin off books?
Alana says
You’re missing a release date. A Warm Heart in Winter, a novela about Blay and Qhuinn, is being released on November 24,2020.
Angelique says
Will there ever be movies or a series made of the books? Love the books.
Viana says
Hi I’ve looked all over but unable to find the answer yet- I’m currently rereading the series as i found it years ago. Just finished Xhex & Johns storyline. But I’m currently making a list of all the books and what order they go in, so far i can easily find the order of the BDB books but some of the books seem to reference some characters from J.R. Wards other series ‘Fallen Angel’ and i was wondering how/when that series plays into the BDB storyline. Do you happen to know when they begin, or rather when I should start reading them prior to their appearance in the BDB world?
Aestas says
The best rule of thumb is to go look at the publication dates for the FALLEN ANGELS series then compare them to the publication dates in BDB. The order they were released in is almost always the way they interconnect 🙂
Stephanie says
I just absolutely love these series!! Do you have anything similar you can recommend? Can’t get enough 🙂

I have reread the series from Dark Lover through Lover Enshrined at least 8 times and they just get better and better. Yup, OCD to the max. J. R. Ward is truly the best of the best. As more and more books came out I couldn’t reread everything up to the new book but every few years I do, never bored. Lost track when the spin-offs from Dearest Ivie and on started coming out, must have fallen in a black hole. So first off huge thanks to Aesta’s reading order list. Here comes the Question: Which of the Spin-offs, Holiday Novels and Novellas come in Hardcover? I don’t expect the HCs in these books but there is The Jackal and Amazon has some on their website as HCs from 3rd party bookstores at ridiculous prices.
For those who haven’t read it, the Insider’s Guide is hilarious, came out after the first 6 books.
Erika Uwanoghor says
I love all books
Read all even
Got caught in all novels
I’m waiting in anticipation for the other novels that are yet to be released
J. D Ward is something else.
TLM says
Where does the Insiders Guide fit in the Correct Reading Order?
Thanks in Advance
Rosie says
Will they ever make this into a tv series or a movie? I am in love with these books and the storyline and would love to see it play out in a series. How do we make this happen or make suggestions?
MarthaK says
The Ward did a Facebook live a few days ago addressing this. She said due to the details of the storylines that she would prefer a series and is open to it.
Elizabeth says
I have question, The Viper is book 3 in the Prisoner Camp series…..when should I read that?
Elizabeth 2 says
Before Forever and after Darius I’d what I would assume.
