CJ Roberts is today’s feature author!!
Her series, “THE DARK DUET”, is an utterly captivating and utterly disturbing dark, twisted and yet beautiful love story, with multi-layered, complex characters that will test the boundaries of your heart and mind, a plot that will captivate and disturb you but at the same time leave you unable to turn away, and a raw, gritty, brutal world of betrayal, revenge, honor, lust, and love. It seduced me and it sickened me. I felt emotionally drained, utterly mindfucked and yet, ultimately, somehow completely at peace.
Definitely one of top favorite reads of the year!

CJ Roberts is an independent writer. She favors dark and erotic stories with taboo twists and her work has been called both sexy and disturbing in the same sentence.
She was born and raised in Southern California. Following high school, she joined the U.S. Air Force in 1998, served ten years and traveled the world. Her favorite part of traveling is seeking out the seedy underbelly of the city.
She is married to an amazing and talented man who never stops impressing her; they have one beautiful daughter.
“Some stories aren’t black and white…”
Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.
Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both.
Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.
WARNING: This series contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

My review of CAPTIVE IN THE DARK (The Dark Duet #1)
My review of SEDUCED IN THE DARK (The Dark Duet #2)
(both reviews are 5 stars & spoiler free)
This series blew my mind. I’m seriously disturbed at how much I loved it. And yet, I think it might end up being one of my favs now. Every scene in it led to more questions, made me doubt my feelings even more. In scenarios where right and wrong seemed so incredibly and unquestionably clear cut, it it just threw all my preconceived notions right out the window and just forcibly opened my mind to more and more perspectives, more and more questions.
The writing style is seriously phenomenal and mesmerizing !! I felt like I just wanted to highlight the whole book! It was captivating, rich, vivid, descriptive… It put me right into the character’s heads. The story flowed beautifully, the dialogue was effortless and the plot was beyond gripping.
CJ Roberts is definitely one of my new favorite authors!
Here are some of our readers’ questions answered by Kristen.
Linsday Z ~ When you first started writing these books, did you anticipate Caleb becoming a love interest or was he supposed to be a villain and eventually morphed into more?
C.J. ~ At first I didn’t intend for Captive in the Dark to be a love story at all. I simply wanted to write. I was stuck in a hotel room and I was bored. I think I was reading a romance at the time and I was annoyed by the hero because the writer and the heroine portrayed him as ‘bad’, but he wasn’t – at all. Being an asshole doesn’t make a character a ‘bad boy’. Also, I’ve always thought that the villains in most stories are very one dimensional.
I’ve always been fascinated by villains. Perhaps it has to do with my dark sense of humor, or the fact I like to analyze people, but I’ve always been drawn to characters I’m not supposed to like. I want to know WHY! Why do people do the things they do and is there any part of them I identify with?
I didn’t know what the story would become, not for several years. And to be honest, the idea of eventually casting Caleb as a sick fuck with a heart of gold was a bit scary for me. I wondered what it said about me to have the story unfold the way it did, but ultimately, I had to say I didn’t care.
Captive in the Dark is a work of fiction and as such, I felt free to explore the subject matter without flinching. It was my way of taking an innate fear that ALL WOMEN have and turning it into something I could wrap my head around. I’ve been criticized for it, but after thousands of reviews I know one thing is certain – readers were ready for someone like Caleb.
What it says about me, the fans, or the thousands that read this book in secret – I don’t know.
Favorite book of all time? That is a REALLY difficult question, but if I had to choose, I’d go with Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice. I grew up Catholic and this book seriously fucked with my head. I asked myself questions I dare not ask out loud.
C.J. ~ I sure do!
Charlie Hunnam as Caleb – He’s hot and incredibly talented. However, if I were making a silent film, it would be Paul Walker all the way!
Hannah Simone as Livvie – She’s so beautiful and I love her eyes.
Drew Van Acker as “Kid” – I want to put that kid over my knee so bad I have hand spasms just thinking about it.
Eduardo Verastegui as Felipe – This man is delicious in more than one language.
Matt Bomer OR Jensen Ackles as Agent Matthew Reed – I can’t stop thinking about a sandwich now.
Naveen Andrews as Rafiq – I don’t care what some people say, he’s hot and a great actor.
Christina Hendricks as Agent Janice Sloan – Other women don’t typically intimidate me, but she stands a good chance. I’d love to see her try. 😉
Jen B ~ I loved your books!! What made you want to write a “dark story” and do you think you will ever venture in writing a more “light” romance book?
Nicole L – I heard you are writing about Agent Reed? Any news on his story?
C.J. ~ I’m going to answer these two together. I’ve already answered the first bit; I wrote the story that was in me to write. However, now that The Dark Duet is over, I’m really looking forward to exploring Agent Reed.As with most of my inspiration, I didn’t see it coming. However, as I was writing Seduced in the Dark, his character really spoke to me. I could picture his eyes, his hair, and his mannerisms in my mind as I was writing. I wanted to know more about him, so much so, that I wrote him into the storyline and gave him chapters.I especially like that he seems to be the polar opposite of Caleb in many respects. He is a hero. Still, not all heroes are perfect and good all of the time. I look forward to examining Reed and what makes him tick. His book won’t be as dark, but I also don’t have it in me to write a sweet novel yet. We’ll see where we land.I haven’t started writing yet, but I’ll be hitting it hard in the New Year. I hope to debut the novel at one of the four book signings I’ll be attending in 2013.
