I’ve just updated different parts of this list with new books so be sure to check in case there are any you might have missed from before — the newly added books are listed first in each category so you don’t have to go hunting for them 😀
New 5 star Recommendation — Making Faces by Amy Harmon
HOLY WOW!!! What a breathtaking book. Beautifully written, deeply moving and utterly captivating. One of my favorites of the year!! 5 stars!! Read my review.
This part from the blurb gave me shivers!! ➜ “Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back… It is the tale of one girl’s love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior’s love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.” ♥♥♥♥♥
New 5 star Recommendation — Willing Captive by Belle Aurora
SQUEEEE!!!!! This book was 5 STARS all the way for me!!! The first thing you should know is that unlike what the cover & title imply, this is not a dark romance at all. Trust me. It was both heartbreaking and heartwarming and just the PERFECT blend of sexy, sweet, hilarious and deeply emotional. It’s a standalone with a gorgeous, broody, protective ALPHA hero, a sarcastic, no-nonsense, awesome heroine and a fun, action-packed, romantic plot. Read my review. ♥♥♥♥♥

** $0.99 & $1.99 BOOK SALES **
- Catch My Fall by Ella Fox. This just went on a flash sale of $0.99 and since it was recommended to me this week, I’m adding it to the list. “Sometimes what you run from is the one thing that will save you. Separately, they’re both free-falling. Together, they’re about to find that love can create the strongest safety net of all.”
- Remembering Joy by Jenni Moen. I’d never heard of this book until a friend messaged me about it but it looks quite good! It seems to be about a girl with a past that she can’t remember but can’t escape and a guy she meets who knows her from her past and remembers everything. The hero is described as “dark, brooding and strangely charming” and the ratings are great though!
- Ninety-Eight by Shannon Mayer. I haven’t read this but I hear it is angsty beyond all reason and has huge twists, turns and reveals that are nearly impossible to talk about without spoilers. Also, it’s on an introductory sale of $0.99.
- Just Human by Kerry Heavens. Several readers have recommended this to me. From the blurb, it seems like a second-chance romance and the sequel, Still Human, was just released so you can read them back to back if you want!
- A Little Too Far by Lise Desrochers. This was a really cute double taboo love triangle with just the right amount of angst, swoony guys and just the ending I’d hoped for. I’m not usually a love triangle fan but this was an exception! Read my Review.
- Lost & Found by Nicole Williams. This is “a story about a troubled girl, a good guy, and one summer that will forever change them both” … oooh and the hero is a cowboy!! It’s the first of a series and here’s the reading order: #1 Lost & Found, #2 Near & Far, #3 Finders Keepers.
- Abel by Elizabeth Reyes. This book #4 in the 5th Street series. I haven’t read them but I’ve heard the guys are Alpha fighters! Here’s the series reading order: #1 Noah, #2 Gio, #3 Hector, #4 Abel. I’ve also heard that Abbi Glines recommends these!
- Branded by Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki. A fast-paced, action-packed Dystopian with a forbidden romance!! I don’t usually read Dystopian books but this one had me hooked! Read my Review.
- The Wager by Rachel Van Dyken. This is the latest book by the author of one of my favorite books of the year, Ruin!! I haven’t read it yet but it’s been getting great reviews. The first book in the series is The Bet but it is also a standalone.
- Sweet Surrendering by Chelsea Cameron. This is actually on promotional sale for $0.99 right now. It’s a new office romance that was just released!! The blurb says “She’s his boss. He doesn’t care. This office isn’t big enough for the two of them… When Rory Clarke ends up hiring the guy she spent one steamy night with to be her administrative assistant, she’s determined to keep things professional.”
- Keep Me Still by Casey Quinn. I haven’t read this yet but the blurb looks so good and several readers have told me that I have to read it! It’s a New Adult romance that can be read as a standalone but there will be more coming in the series. It’s high on my list!

- Ruin by Rachel Van Dyken. If you’re one of the readers who hasn’t read this yet, trust me, you are missing out!!! This is one of my favorite standalone romances of the year!!
** RECOMMENDATIONS FROM READERS **
- Series Recommendation: For anyone interested in BDSM/military romance, the RESCUE ME series has very high ratings and is described as “erotic romances about dominant men and the women who bring them to their knees.” Unfortunately though, some of the covers are being censored at the moment making them hard to search for so here’s the reading order: #1 Masters At Arms, #2 Nobody’s Angel, #3 Nobody’s Hero, #4 Nobody’s Perfect.
- Only For You by Genna Rulon. I’m passing along this recommendation that was sent to me by a reader yesterday. It’s a standalone NA romance described in the blurb as “a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption – brimming with witty characters, intelligent dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.”
- Lost & Found (Emi Lost and Found #1) by Lori Otto. This series is on many readers’ most favorite list. It’s a completed trilogy and I hear it’s an ‘atypical romance’. I’ve been told by the people who have read it that it’s one of the most emotional series they’ve read so that peaked my curiosity! The series reading order is: #1 Lost And Found, #2 Time Stands Still, #3 Never Look Back.
- The Dark Light of Day by T.M. Frazier. I’ve had this book recommended to me several times on Goodreads so I’ve added it to my list. From the blurb: “Two broken souls that can’t be healed. They can’t be saved. Abby & Jake have to decide if they can accept the darkness not only within one another, but within themselves. If they can accept each other for who they really are, they might be able to learn that love isn’t always found in the light.”
- The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. I just had this book recommended to me and while it doesn’t seem like one of our usual romance reads, this line from the blurb made me one-click ➜ “Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive…” I’m intrigued!!!
- Beautifully Awake by Riley Mackenzie. I’ve had this book recommended to me by several friends this week and thought I’d pass on the info in case you want to check it out. She said the hero is “swoony, sexy, JEALOUS and dominant”… oh, and he’s a doctor AND her boss!! This is a standalone romance (the next will be about a different couple) and it’s now on my reading list.
- Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I’ve had several readers recommend this to me recently so I thought I’d post the link in case you want to check it out. I haven’t read it yet but one of the reviews described it as perfect for fans of “character-driven stories with humor, realistic dialogue, and a sweet love story.”
** EXTRAS **
Also, here are some books I found when I was going through my review request emails so since it might be a while before I can read all of them, I thought I’d post them here for you to check out in case you’re interested 🙂
- Let It Be Me by Toni Aleo. Here’s another standalone that has been getting great ratings and looks very emotional. I’ll let you click through and read the blurb for yourselves but I immediately one-clicked when I read it ♥ **EDIT: I’m just finished this one and loved it! Read my review 🙂
- Strip Me Bare by Marissa Carmel. Male stripper alert!!!! This is a New Adult second-chance romance. “Five years ago Ryan Pierce disappeared from Alana Remington’s life without leaving so much as a post-it note behind. He was the one she gave her heart to, her soul to and her virginity to. So imagine her surprise when she finds him dancing at one of NYC’s hottest male revues as Jack the Stripper.” OMG!!! ♥
- Chasing Serenity by Eden Butler. This one is the first of a series but there are NO cliffhangers and the hero is a tattooed, bad boy rugby player with an Irish accent!! Holy swoon!! I’ve added it to my TBR. Oh, and it’s only $0.99 right now ♥
- Sweet Home by Tillie Cole. This is a New Adult standalone romance loosely based on Romeo & Juliet (but not the same ending, lol) and I’ve heard that the hero is a sexy, brooding quarterback. I’ll be honest that I don’t know too much more at this point but I read an excerpt that the author sent me and liked it so I’m posting the link in case you want to check it out ♥
- Strangers by A.L. Parks. This one was described to me as an emotional standalone novel about love after loss and I really liked the excerpt I was sent (I was swooning over the hero already!!) so it’s now been added to my TBR ♥ And, it’s FREE!!

Lol, Kim!! I alllmost started it last night actually 😉

Is Abel the series book, are those standalone? I think they are because the name of different hero gives it away.

I highly recommend “Moore to Lose,” Book 2 in Julie Richman’s “Needing Moore” trilogy. It follows “Searching for Moore,” and follows heroine, Mia Silver during the 24 “lost” years. It’s a gut-wrenching, raw and real voyage of self-discovery.

Aestas says
Yes, Sempre is now being released by Simon & Schuster along with new content in anticipation of the sequel to be released the following month 🙂
Monica says
Will we have to repurchase Sempre to get the new content or will it be updated?
Aestas says
No, you will have to repurchase because it’s being republished. This isn’t an update to the indie version, it’s actually a genuine republication.
Jerri Kindig says
What a fantastic compilation. If you can’t find one to read out of all of these then you are beyond help LOL! I would suggest a paranormal romance by Jody Summers, Dark Canvas (darkcanvas.net for the book site). It’s absolutely incredible. I wasn’t sure at first as I am not a realy fan of that sub genre, but it won me over! Worth a look!
Aestas says
Thank you for the rec 🙂
