Official Description from Ilona Andrew’s website:
The world has suffered a magic apocalypse. We pushed the technological progress too far, and now magic returned with a vengeance. It comes in waves, without warning, and vanishes as suddenly as it appears. When magic is up, planes drop out of the sky, cars stall, electricity dies. When magic is down, guns work and spells fail.
It’s a volatile, screwed-up world. Magic feeds on technology, gnawing down on skyscrappers until most of them topple and fall, leaving only skeletal husks behind. Monsters prowl the ruined streets, werebears and werehyenas stalk their prey; and the Masters of the Dead, necromancers driven by their thirst of knowledge and wealth, pilot blood-crazed vampires with their minds.
In this world lives Kate Daniels. Kate likes her sword a little too much and has a hard time controlling her mouth. The magic in her blood makes her a target, and she spent most of her life hiding in plain sight. But sometimes even trained killers make friends and fall in love, and when the universe tries to kick them in the face, they kick back.
This is definitely my favorite UF series. As a whole, I usually prefer more romance driven books, but the romance that build in the background of this series between Kate and Beast Lord Curran is quite swoony and the unique world-building, action-driven plot lines, and snarky laugh-out-loud humor kept me highly entertained.
This is a great completed PNR series about a group of demons who run a hospital (The Underground General Hospital “UGH” lol). Its a great twist on good vs evil seeing the ‘evil’ demons as the good guys as the good guys. The series ends with a lead in to Ione’s new spin-off series Lords of Deliverance (see below) which taken place in the same world with each book belonging to one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Every creature or being that was thought to be mythical . . . isn’t.
They all secretly exist alongside humans and enjoy the gift of immortality. There are hundreds of different kinds: from Vampires to Lykae, from Furies to Shifters, from the Fey to Valkyries.
These immortals call their world The Lore.
You may have had a brush with one of Lorekind already. The eccentric billionaire with hypnotic charisma—and an aversion to sunlight. The ethereal waif of impossible beauty—whose fingernails look more like claws. The Highlander with a seventeenth-century Scottish accent and animal magnetism—who can never be penciled in on the night of the full moon.
They walk among us, but they war among themselves. Each faction has its strengths, weaknesses, and age old prejudices against the others. Every five hundred years, the Accession, a battle for supremacy, rages. That time is now. . . .

This is a hot, steamy, funny PNR series taking place in a world of vampires, Valkyries, Lykae, fey, demons, ghosts, and more. I like/loved some books more than others. The first 2 were the hardest for me to get through, the heroes were a little too controlling for my tastes, but there were many books in the middle of the series that I absolutely loved. This is one of those series that gets better and better as it progresses. If I had to rate the series as a whole, I’d give it 4 stars despite there being some 5 star reads in it.
