This was a cute, fluffy “friends-to-lovers” New Adult romance with a dash of mystery thrown in and while it was predictable, it was also just light, sexy and fun.
It had several laughs, and a lot of steam in the second half and despite the plot being predictable, sometimes that’s exactly what you need – especially after a particularly dark or intense read.
The story is about Kyler and Sydney who had been inseparable best friends since childhood ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. But for a long time now, Sydney has been hopelessly in love with him…..
“No one could replace me in his life. I knew that… I was Kyler’s best friend. And because of that, he would never love me the way I loved him… Girls were like flavours to him and i wasn’t one he wanted to taste.”
… and yet Kyler has never felt good enough for her. He’d put her on a pedestal making her both desirable and yet her unattainable for him. So he’s distracted himself with other girls – anyone really…
“You could put my ass in brand new sneakers, designer jeans, and a new car, and I was still the same white trash boy from the trailer part who couldn’t believe the pretty little girl in class wanted to be friends… Sydney Bell had always been, and would always be, a few pedestals too high for me.”
But when a snow storm strands them together in a secluded ski resort, it gives them the perfect opportunity to explore those long hidden feelings.
“How much snow are they calling for?”
“Somewhere between a lot and holy fuck.”
The colder it became outside, the hotter things got between them so as the friend line began to blur, their true feelings about each other came out… Oh, and let not forget the crazy stalker out there determined to ruin their time.
From the very first few pages, I was smiling but there was certainly a lot of back-and-forth… Holy UST!!! There was sightly more indecision though than my usual preference in a book and by the 35% mark, I was ready to just shove them at each other and not allow them to move until they’d kissed, lol.
The characters insecurities were frustrating at times but at the same time I just went with it. It was clear that Kyler cared for her deeply (despite his man-whoring) and as things began to heat up romantically between them, the swoon and hotness began to pour in.
“You’re better than a one-night stand, Sydney. I can’t do that do you… You deserve more.”
I read it in one sitting and it just cleared my palate. It was a quick, light, sometimes frustrating, but fun read with a bunch of UST, no cliffhanger and a HEA 🙂
