“I knew if I started things with us, I had to be all in.” He pulled me closer. “I’m all in, Lottie.”
HOLY FREAKING SQUEEEEEEE!!!!!!
Omg!!!! OMG! This was pure KA GOLD and my heart is just overflowing with happy feels!!
There was SO MUCH ALPHA BADASS GOODNESS in this story (yes, shouty caps are required for this level of awesome) and it was just PURE WIN!!! Omg!!! THE CAMEOS! (All the cameos!) THE ROMANCE! (All the swoon!) THE EPIC SCENES!!! If you love big badass protective heroes, strong sassy heroines, and couples that actually openly communicate with each other with maturity, then you absolutely MUST READ THIS!!!! It was AMAZING!!!
First off, while you technically could read this as a standalone, it bears mentioning of how exactly it’s connected to Kristen Ashley’s zillion and one other books (here’s a full reading order of all her books) because there are SO many crossovers and cameos that if you’ve read the other books, you’ll get several extra levels of epic out of this story.
This novella (it’s 255 pages, so it’s practically a book, but in KA’s world where her books average 500-700 page each, this counts as a novella) is a continuation of the Dream Man series, which is a spinoff of the Rock Chick series. I’ve read every single book in all of these series and I can confirm that they are ALL AMAZING TOP FAVORITE RECOMMENDATIONS. Seriously, if you haven’t yet, just trust me and start at the beginning and read every single one. You’ll go straight to badass Alpha romance heaven, I promise. I’ll list everything at the bottom of this post.
So the heroine, Lottie, is Jet’s sister from the Rock Chick series. And the hero is one of Hawk’s badass commandos from the Dream Man series. And all the heroes from all these series make appearances in this story so while you don’t *need* to have read their books in order to understand this story, it’d be a helluva lot more fun if you had.
Anyhooo so what’s this story about? Here’s the blurb:
“Charlotte “Lottie” McAlister is in the zone. She’s ready to take on the next chapter of her life, and since she doesn’t have a man, she’ll do what she’s done all along. She’ll take care of business on her own. Even if that business means starting a family.
The problem is, Lottie has a stalker. The really bad kind. The kind that means she needs a bodyguard.
Enter Mo Morrison.
Mo doesn’t say much, and Lottie’s used to getting attention. And she wants Mo’s attention. Badly. But Mo has a strict rule. If he’s guarding your body, that’s all he’s doing with it.
However, the longer Mo has to keep Lottie safe, the faster he falls for the beautiful blonde…”
So this book was brimming with commandos, badasses, and Rock Chicks galore!!
KA has this special way of making you FEEL down to your bones what badass truly is. There is no doubt that she is the reigning queen of badass romance. And if you’re wondering why I’ve used this word so many times, then you just need to read this story to understand why there’s just no other word that would do justice to these heroes!
Lottie was such a strong heroine – totally in control of her life and didn’t need anyone to lean on but that didn’t mean she didn’t also dream of having her own family. Mo was the the big, quiet, badass stranger hired to be her literal shadow and to protect her from all harm when an expected but very serious threat entered her life. If you know KA, then all you really need to know about Mo is that he’s one of Hawk’s men. That should give you a good scale of his badassery. Also this:
“So, you have to sleep in the same room with me?” I asked.
“Yes, he answered.
“But you’ll be sleeping.”
“I require four hours of sleep a night, ma’am. And from REM to battle ready required two point five four seconds. I don’t know what the time is to do that and get down the hall if you’re facing a threat. I just know it’s longer than two point five four seconds.”
Two point five four.
“You’ve timed it?” I queried disbelievingly.
And LMAO there was some seriously hilarious banter in this story, not to mention crazy shenanigans that I promise will bring a smile to your face!
Plus with all the sexual tension going on with them falling for each other but he had to be on duty to protect her so they had to wait till the threat was over and just oooooo SO MUCH TENSION! But in a totally good way!
THE FREAKING CAMEOS.
ALL THE CAMEOS!!!
And then…. MORE CAMEOS!!!!
“You’re already getting married?” Eddie asked, his voice low and unhappy. “You said you just started things up a couple hours ago.”
I whirled on him. “When did you move Jet in with you?”
He shut his mouth.
Not a one of them could use the “You’re rushing into this” defense.
It was epic and awesome and I won’t give any specific spoilers but I’ll just say that seeing the entire Hot Bunch crew (and more!) acting as big brothers was just a whole other side of pure delightful heart-warming awesome!
I glared at him. “Fine.” I turned my glare to the men in the room. “But no one hurt him while I’m gone.”
“We’re not gonna hurt him,” Ren said.
“I might hurt him,” Vance murmured.
“I’m in on that,” Hector added.
“You’re not gonna hurt him!” I yelled at Hector.”
I have to say (and I feel like I say this in almost all my KA reviews) that one of the best things about her books is her portrayal of family. The heart-warming depths of care that these people had for each other went far above the call of duty — a family built not only from blood, but just from pure love, respect and care. Seriously ALL THE FEELS!
Another thing which was a huuuuuuge part of why I loved this book was how mature the characters were with how they handled issues with not only each other but the people around them. There is no stupid in this story, not even a little. SO refreshing!
“We’ll just get this out there right now, so it’s there and over. If you want to talk about [it], I’ll listen. If you don’t want to talk about [it], I won’t push. If you need to get up and go to the gym, I don’t care. If you need to do anything, save injecting heroin, to deal, I’m at your back, on your side or whatever you need.”
Not to mention that in all of this awesomeness we meet more of Mo’s buds who are the subjects of the next spinoff series that is coming up next starting with Dream Maker and after reading Quiet Man let me tell you that I CANNOT WAIT FOR THEM!!!!
